Deaniacs In a Funk, Want to Secede from U.S.

Their beloved leader has conceded. Crestfallen, they flock to Howard Dean's Internet website Blog For America to express their grief and confusion over Howard's failure to lead his crusade all the way to the White House.

Seattle Times chief political reporter David Postman logged onto the blog site and found that in the wake of Dean's withdrawal from the campaign it has become something of a wailing wall for disappointed Deaniacs unable to grasp the reality of sudden death of their hopes and dreams.

"My God, I'm crying on my keyboard here!" grief-stricken Bob from New York wailed in a posting.

Emily in Indiana was confused: "I just don't understand. I would like someone to explain it to me. The truth I mean, the real truth of why this campaign is over. Dean has more delegates, more volunteers, more money: So why? Why go now? Because of the press? Because Edwards surged? Because Kerry has better hair? Why?"

Perhaps the fact that this poster can't grasp that it is Kerry, not Dean, who has more delegates, due to Dean not having won even one caucus or primary, is part of the answer - just don't try to tell that to her.

Here's sampling of other messages the aptly named Postman found posted on the Blog:

Dated Dean, Married Kerry.
Dated Dean, Got a hj from Kucinich, Went to bed with Sharpton, Woke up with Kerry.
Dated Dean, Settled for Kerry.
Dated Dean, Harried Kerry.

I, too, can feel their pain.

Unfortunately, their hate for Bush is stronger than their love for Dean. They loved Dean for his loathing for Bush. I actually saw that in a post on the dark side.

I absolutely agree. Some of the deaniacs openly embrace communism and have talked seriously about how they could legally fix where Republicans would not be allowed to vote. And they were trying to come up with legal ways to stop conservative media outlets. These people are the ones who are running on rage. They hate America and are spoiled because mommy and daddy have given them everything they wanted and now they have ventured into the real world and are being told for the first time in their life that they can't have something. They are living in a childish world of make believe.

Balconycollapse wondered if they could all just secede from the nation "and start a small country in Vermont supported by several casinos?"

This is pretty much the sort of brilliant, breakthrough economic theory one might reasonably expect from the sorts of dunderheads and starry-eyed naifs who actually surrendered upwards of forty-five MILLION DOLLARS to Howard "YEEEEAAAAARRRRRRGH!" Dean in the first place. :)

Not to get overly optimistic, but I believe that that the Dems are still banging the election 2000 drum these days because they know the next election results will go so badly for them that they'll have no room to complain. The 2000 debacle will become an asterisk in the history books and not an issue anymore.

Problem is, they would quickly bankrupt their country and we'd wind up with another country demanding foreign aid from Bush.

Oh absolutely! Thats their mantra, Bush stole the election!!!! When they were doing their calculations on past presidential wins and what the chances were for 2004, they actually put Gore in the 2000 win column. thats how much in deniel they are.

Victor in Illinois wants Deaniacs to launch a campaign for a Nobel Peace Prize for Dean.

LMAO!! I'm no Nobel authority, but, don't you actually have to DO something to be considered?? Oh, and wouldn't HE make us proud, sleeves rolled up, riding the Dean Express into the great hall to receive his prize? These people need to get a grip.

Maybe if the kook states ever did secede, the residents of those areas loyal to the U.S. could counter-secede and form new states, like West Virginia in 1863.

They certainly could, since by the very act of seceding, the government of a given state would automatically become illegitimate.

That's just what happened with Virginia. When it seceded, the legislators from the Western counties said "screw this", met in session themselves as the One True Government of Virginia, cut themselves loose from the rest of the state and applied for statehood as a separate entity. Given the circumstances, Congress understandably recognized them as the only "real" government of Virginia and approved the application. Result: West Virginia.

(The whole deal was slightly more complicated than noted above, and took a couple of years to work out, but that's the quick-and-dirty version.)

Can Kerry win without them? Not unless Bush does something extremely stupid before November.

They will be there for Kerry. Deans campaign was based on: "I hate George Bush as much as you do -and more!!!
