Terrorists freed from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay have rejoined Taliban and al-Qaida cells in Afghanistan, sources said late Thursday.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is expected to release the information today in a speech in Miami, sources said Thursday.
But Rumsfeld's revelation about the few prisoners in Cuba who shouldn't have been let go will be used as justification for indefinitely detaining terror suspects still held there, said one defense official.

I hope the liberals, including the ACLU are happy.
And what if these very same people come and try to hit us again, which is their full intention.
Will the liberals and ACLU take responsibility for having insisted to let these "poor prisoners" go?

DUH!

If we're going to release them, then let's just bring them to the GitMo front gate and throw them out there. Let Fidel worry 'bout 'em.

Here is another article with more detail:
Former detainees reportedly rejoin terror cells
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001857027_rejoin13.html Pentagon officials have refused to discuss one reported case of a Taliban commander, Mullah Shehzada, who rejoined comrades in Afghanistan after his October release from the Guantánamo, Cuba prison.
Shehzada convinced his interrogators he was an innocent civilian captured by Northern Alliance troops and turned over to the United States, Time magazine reported last year.
Rumsfeld also is expected to reveal that detainees have provided intelligence about human smuggling rings in Latin America aimed at sneaking al-Qaida members into the United States.

Looks like those implanted GPS receivers are going to come in very handy.
Set missile target coordinates to "Omar Yusef." Launch.

Now, now. I am sure the implanted "Digital Angel" tracking chips are going to be a real help to us...

This unknown 'defense official' insinuating that this would be a bad thing?

Well, it just gives us a second chance at giving them a dirt nap.
Truly, this is as outrageous as it was predictable.

It only makes sense to use something like that to track these people. It only makes sense. Hopefully, "our people" did something like that. Of course, we'll never know....

Rumsfeld also is expected to reveal that detainees have provided intelligence about human smuggling rings in Latin America aimed at sneaking al-Qaida members into the United States. I wonder how many dead Americans it will take before we get serious about controlling the borders. Crackpot bi-partisan amnesty schemes won't stop al-Qaida.

"Rumsfeld also is expected to reveal that detainees have provided intelligence about human smuggling rings in Latin America aimed at sneaking al-Qaida members into the United States".And yet the borders still remain virtually unguarded(Except were possible by private citizens). Wonder what excuse the politicians will give (before the locals hang em by ropes), when a terrorist who crosses our porous border, causes another 9/11 type event.

This is serious. These terrorists played us for chumps.
It seems that the indefinate detention of the Taliban and al-Qaida fighters was justified. Any doubts I had about this policy have been erased.
I propose detaining them in foreign lands, such as Diego Garcia or Iraq, away from the US Supreme Court.
Gitmo is a de facto US colony, occupied by US troops during the Spanish-American War. It has never been under Cuban control, and SCOTUS can rule that the administration's argument of Cuban sovereignty over Gitmo is bogus.

Exactly. This IS the worst of it. What I don't understand is why didn't the US go and TALK to the Northern Alliance guys who captured this guys, who knew who he was -- why did they take the prisoners word against the word of our friends from the Northern Alliance.

I really think we need to repair the damage by going after that guy and KILLING him, as an object lesson.

They will go back to their terrorist organizations and say "hey guys, want a break?" "Let the Americans capture you, you get great medical and dental care, and very healthy (though terrible tasting food).
Soon Gitmo will be a stop on their "duty" rotation for rest and recuperation.
