Problem with your assessment is, Eminem is not known for his "voice" he's not a singer.

As a lyricist and in terms of his "flow"(different styles of intonation, etc) and imagination he is far superior to the industry-fed "rap" stars like Nelly. One of the reasons Eminem is popular is because he doesn't go on and on about "bling" and "hoes" and partying. Instead, like it or not, he skewers sacred cows(including a number of those of the left) and defies convention and stirs up "trouble." He does so with quite a bit of skill.

He is a lot more talented than technology(and image) driven stars like Britney.

As for real talent? Well, compared to a girl I went to HS with who is now a well-known violinist(and was a prodigy) even those YOU view as talented would pale in comparison.

Heck, lots of people don't like Prince but the man is(or at least WAS) a genius who learned to play 24 instruments by ear, was a prolific composer and possessed a true falsetto. But you probably would look down on someone like that.

Sorry, folks. It's a publicity stunt, plain and simple. I'd be even willing to bet that if the heat starts rising about this, he'll just say, "I said "I'd rather see the precedent dead," refering to why people think I rap, and someone messed up when they were printing out the lyrics to my song."

Anyone else think this?

I'll do my part and never buy another M&M record. Since I have never bought an M&M record, I have, in effect, been boycotting him for years.

M&M will feel the wrath of my indifference!

"I'm the equivalent of what it would be if Bush rapped..."

From one of his raps...it was meant as a compliment. He's hardly a Dixie Chick. Plus, agreed, no threat implied here toward any president...

But you're WRONG, why aren't you seeing that?

I quoted other parts of the song, hardly leftist material.

I told you of the rhetorical trick of reversing one line to make a point via absurdity about the line you reversed(the main thought in that part of the song is he does not rap strictly for money, the other line is merely a rhetorical trick to underline that)

If this guy had a history like Rage Against the Machine, then I'd agree with you.

But the song does not refer ever again to the Pres, but does speak negatively about not being able to defend himself via firearms from criminals and even Osama Bin Laden.

Is none of this getting through your skull?

This is playing right into his hands.

Eminem's whole thing is about pissing off critics, no matter what their politics are. He pisses off people, gets them to yap, then makes fun of them with another middle finger in his songs. There's a reason why one of his songs is title "Just don't give a f!#%"

I like Eminem's music. His lyrics are typically dramatic and full of hyperbole, just as the political commentary of the time is. That's his business.

The problem with people who want to punish those who disagree with them is that they don't understand what FREE SPEECH is all about. Sometimes, it's not about YOUR free speech. Sometimes it's about OTHERS' free speech.

Get a life and leave Eminem to his own tortured musical musings.

I understand it. I may not care for Eminem. I am not into rap. Yes, he shocks people and does it on purpose. These lines being discussed are not about Pres. Bush. As I said, I do not care for his music, but sometimes he gets it just right! lol Compared to some of these so-called "artists" out there, he can be quite good!

Put on your hard hat...someone's 15 minutes are falling hard. I like Eminem but rap and hiphop genre is like a revolving door.

The reference to "dead presidents" is hip-hop code for cash.

Old blues code, too.

"But you're WRONG, why aren't you seeing that?"

I appreciate yer attempts to educate folks about Eminem, but most of those posting to this thread have probably never seen the guy in concert or bought his CDs, so a boycott of something you never purchased in the first place is simply a waste of energy. Eminem's got his niche and nothing us non-listeners do is likely to change that demographic.

>> Wow all this furor and we STILL don't know if Eminem was talking about George Bush. Has he issued a statement? Has anyone bothered to find out first? <<

"Dead Presidents" could be anyone, but in "Without Me", he does refer to THIS guy by name:

And Moby? You can get stomped by Obie
You thirty-six year old baldheaded f--, b--- me
You don't know me, you're too old, let go
It's over, nobody listen to techno

Since Moby is a worthless Bush-bashing twirp, anyone who can tell him to go shove it with THAT kind of directness has my respect. Hey Eninem, go for it, beat the crap out of this pantsy the next time you see him!
