Shame on FOX NEws
My TV | Me

Posted on 11/19/2003 6:27:32 AM PST by Hillary's Folly

Okay, so it's a stupid vanity that probably won't last 10 seconds, but I have to say shame on Fox news, their post Bush speech coverage is the lamest on TV this morning, they jumped to this stupid Michael Jackson nonsense almost immediately and now have some roundtable going on this subject instead of on the speech of our age. They're beginning to look more like the FOX network to me.

People may not believe me when I point it out, but Pat Robertson's CBN does more in-depth coverage of news than any network going, now that FOX News has become FOX T&A. Between Hannity & Colmes, Greta, and much of O'Reilly, I saw basically 2-3 hours of Scott Peterson coverage last night, and the night before, and...also, can't Greta get any guests other than Bernie Grimm and Ted Williams? Did they move in with her or something. I've also taken up watching Scarborough Country now at 10 pm.

Seriously, I tape Brit's show and watch it every night, and I even find an interesting interview occasionally on O'Reilly, but the rest of FOX is junk IMO. Ok, some people like Cavuto but I never see it.

Ditto that.

Of course, FNC has no obligation to broadcast what I think is important. But if they never broadcast what I think is important ... and they always broadcast what I think is UNimportant, then I watch less and less.

And you are right as well, the sad thing is that when CNN's coverage makes FOX's look like a high school news cast i worry why it is that FOX is number one in cable news. What does that say about the sad state of cable news?

Hi Quilla,

Cavuto is a treasure, and like a lot of people, I'm about fed up with the Fox "News" junk. I'm pleased to see FNC is causing CNN grief, but the way FNC's news is being managed, I can't imagine them beating anyone in a few months.

They are just lucky that CNN is too dumb to make a few key changes in their programing.

Thanks for the link. I used to catch some of his show early in the AM. But I sleep a little later now, and I don't know if he's still on in the early AM. I barely have time to watch Brit at night. I can't do two shows. But thanks. I know Cavuto is a class act. Actually, the way my timer is set, I catch the last couple of minutes of Gibson's show, and it seems OK too. Seems like those three in a row are the non tabloid, decent news programs on Fox. By 8PM it's wall to wall tabloid, including Hannity's program.

They'll break into the continuous loop Laci/Kobe/Jackson stories later today to cover Hillary!'s announcement.

Bawhahaha, don't get me started on that nonsense. Of course no one gets more mileage out of that than Chris Matthews.

Every time I have turned on Fox today to catch coverage of Dubya's Brit trip, they are talking about Laci. Or Scott. I am sick and tired of the Peterson case. It's not of national importance, there are murders committed in every state every single day. Enough already!! I am so sick of it that I welcome Jacko back into the headlines just to hear about something other than the Peterson case.

You are close. The real question is what does it say about the state of cable VIEWERS. If you look at Fox's ratings, the best shows have the lowest ratings. They still beat CNN, but the stuff that really gets ratings is tabloid. If you ask me, it's OK. When you are a super genius, as I am, you have to accept that most of the world is calibrated for a lower order of human. Better that Fox gets them than CNN.

I am kidding about the supergenius thing, of course, but only to make the point by way of exaggeration. It ain't Buckley's Firing Line that gets ratings, or Uncommon Knowledge ( http://www.uncommonknowledge.org )even if they are fascinating programs. It's tabloid journalism that sells.

Nuts 'n' sluts sells.

Not an audience out there for thought. That hurts sometimes, and, worse, people who think too much begin to connect the dots. Give 'em more Joe Millionaire on the air and more Jacko and Peterson on cable and keep 'em tranquilized.

Hey Cuttnhorse!

Although she has hundreds of channels, my 83 year old mother watches Fox News exclusively. Cavuto is (was) one of her favorites. She was quite upset with his Victoria's Secret segment last week. I saw a promo this morning and I think he's going to air another one today. Mother will be on her high (haidas) horse when I get home from work this afternoon. ;-)

That is the issue, and what I meant as well, but also being a supergenius I didn't feel the need to flesh it out fully. But, what made FOX number one was that they were different, I believe it was Brit Hume and those like him, it was the fact that when the president or others in the administration spoke live somewhere, they covered it when others didn't. That has changed lately, I am not convinced their current trend will keep them on top. I hope not anyway.

I watch only four good shows on Fox.

1. Cavuto
2. Special Report w/ Brit Hume
3. Beltway Boys
4. Fox NewsWatch

I was really hoping Brit would get up to cover this one. When i was growing up, a speech like this would have been broadcast in it's entirety on the network evening news 9sigh).

Those are my favorites too...occasionally O'Rielly, but where I live he must compete with "The Simpsons" re runs.

Actually, those are the two least annoying of her "regulars." Gloria Allred and Geoffrey Fieger are fingernails-on-the-chalkboard annoying. Ted Williams is actually all right; it's just too bad he has to talk about the same thing night after night. I love his (mis-)pronunciations.

I agree that they are spending way too much time talking about court cases. Way too much. I can't watch it for long anymore, either. Only Brit Hume's show is still watchable. I don't get to see Cavuto, but he's usually pretty good, too. I also like the Saturday morning financial shows.

That amazes me. Did you ever see a really important thread (about terrorists or possible attacks/WMD) and then see it scroll off the screen because Scott Peterson was emotional and had to leave the courtroom?
