A black market in fake vaccination record cards is reaching epidemic proportions online. Fraudsters have been hawking knock-offs of the three-by-four-inch cards on retail sites including eBay, Etsy and Shopify, as well as on the social media sites Facebook and TikTok, the New York Times reported this week. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been seizing an increasing number of fake IDs, including driver’s licenses, in recent years. Most come from China and are good enough to fool an average person, an agency official said. In 2019, CBP seized more than 78,000 fake documents, an increase from almost 57,000 a year earlier, and some 26,000 in 2015. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents from the Chicago Field Office intercepted a parcel in Louisville that contained hundreds of fake driver’s licenses. A tweet by the CPB Chicago states the fraudulent ID’s were found at the Louisville mail facility. In all, the package contained 238 fake driver’s licenses and 536 black card stocks.

Customs agents at O'Hare International Airport have seized more than 1,700 "high quality" counterfeit driver's licenses that have been shipped from China this year. The licenses were for the states of Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
