Has anybody experienced DNS not resolving a business URL correctly? I buy sleep apnea supplies from Verus Healthcare (www.verus.com). When I got to verus.com, DNS is resolving to LinkedIn! It is resolving to a specific person profile on LinkedIn, too, not just the general address for LinkedIn (it resolves to Joshua Schoen on LinkedIn). In fact, it is entering Joshua Schoen's name in the search box in LinkedIn. I tried three different browsers on my Mac (Safari, Firefox, Chrome). Same results. I cleared the cache in the browsers. Same results in all three. I restarted my Mac. Same results. Then...

I have detected a serious YouTube security threat that needs exposure. All IT and security experts welcome to please check into my findings and chime in. Here is what I found so far. Years ago this was a problem. Just going to youtube or Google mail at all even on another tab without logging in would load strong spyware in your browser and even in your machine permanently which required reinstalling your OS to remove. It tracked logins on other tabs and was gaining access to keyboards, microphones, and cameras even if you just landed on their site by accident....

Geez, is there some requirement an OP must repost / reply in under an hour? Some of us actually have lives!! And I needed to look at the computer again to get info. for replies, and it was, ya' know, not right at my fingertips. Anyway, here goes AGAIN: I've inherited a huge gaming computer from my brother. It seems to turn on ok, except that there is no video from either the Motherboard or the dedicated graphics card. Once the computer is on, the CPU gets warm, the RAM gets warm, the dedicated graphics card gets warm, controls for...

We all know relationships can be complicated, but few are quite as complicated as the one between Apple and Google. Cue Apple’s creepy new attack ad on Google—with a clear message for its 1.4 billion users—stop using Chrome on your iPhone. So, why now? Google is on a mission to convert Safari users to Chrome. It currently relies on Safari to drive most search requests from iPhones—enabled by a financial arrangement between itself and Apple, whereby Google search is the default on Safari. But that arrangement could soon be curtailed by monopoly investigations in the US and Europe. And so...

During a time of drastic change in the world of technology, a story of triumph and lost opportunities, and a mysterious death after a fight at a Monterey bar. Fifty years ago, in Pacific Grove, in the tool shed of a house on Bayview, a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School named Gary Kildall wrote the software that ignited the personal computer revolution. “Gary made it possible for anybody's program to run on anyone's computer,” said Tom Rolander, Kildall’s best friend and right-hand man. In 1974, Kildall created CPM (Control Program for Microcomputers) and started Digital Research Incorporated, or DRI...

A bronzed Joe Biden made a bizarre claim about inventing a computer chip during his make-or-break interview Friday. Biden, 81, would repeatedly respond to questions in a raspy, weary voice, often losing track mid-sentence and at times ignoring questions in an attempt to make occasionally outlandish claims about his record. The president at one point told George Stephanopoulos that 'we used to have 40 percent of computer chips. We invented the chip, the little chip, the computer chip. It's in everything from cell phone to weapons.' The president repeatedly rejected taking an independent medical evaluation that would show voters he...

Windows 11 officialy squeezed within the confines of 16GB storage. Microsoft has published the system requirements for Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024, which recently started to roll out. The specification will help steer design decisions for upcoming devices and computers running Windows IoT Enterprise. Lowered minimum specifications, with TPM and Secure Boot optional, are among the most interesting aspects of this release. Windows 11 IoT Enterprise is a full version of Windows Enterprise intended for fixed-purpose devices like ATMs, point-of-sale terminals, digital signage, kiosks, and industrial automation systems, among others. In other words, this version of Windows is not...

The Antikythera Mechanism, widely believed to be the world’s first computer, was among wreckage retrieved from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island Antikythera on May 17, 1901. A year later, it was identified as containing a gear by Greek archaeologist Valerios Stais. Since then, the Mechanism has had a lasting impact on scientists and thinkers across the world. The Tablet, or the Antikythera Mechanism “Tablet” was probably the name ancient Greeks gave the Antikythera Mechanism, which dates from the second...

Opinion The scientific community celebrated April 14 as World Quantum Day to raise awareness of quantum science’s impact across diverse fields The world of science is on the cusp of a transformative era driven by the burgeoning field of quantum technology. Quantum science is founded on several key principles that underpin the behaviour of particles and systems at the quantum scale. The term “quantum scale” refers to the realm of physics that deals with phenomena occurring at very small scales, typically at the level of atoms, subatomic particles and fundamental particles. It encompasses the principles of quantum mechanics, which govern...

Pascal, the programming language he created in the early days of personal computing, offered a simpler alternative to other languages in use at the time.Dr. Wirth died of heart failure on Jan. 1, 2024 at his home in Zurich, his daughter Tina Wirth said. He was 89. He wasn’t nearly as well known as programmers such as Steve Wozniak, who founded Apple with Steve Jobs, or Bill Gates, who founded Microsoft with Paul Allen. But to legions of computer scientists Dr. Wirth was one of the most influential and inspiring scientists of the early computer age. The Association for Computing...

We recommend the best PC builds for every price point. If you want a computer that meets your exact needs and budget, you need to put it together yourself. When you build a gaming PC, you get total control of the parts, choosing the exact make and model of motherboard, a case with the look you like and even the layout of RGB (or non-RGB fans). You could save time by purchasing one of the best pre-built gaming PCs, but you'll give up control and spend more. By constructing your own PC from components, you will likely save hundreds dollars...

Back in 1978 I (i.e., the narrator Mr. Darling) worked for Cray Research, which made what was at the time the world’s fastest computer, the Cray-1. I thought it would be interesting to compare the Cray-1 with the latest model of iPhone, the iPhone 13. The day after the deadliest U.S. wildfire in a century destroyed a seaside community on Maui, the barrage of 911 calls didn’t stop: Reports of missing people, stranded family members and confused tourists trapped without food or water lit up the emergency lines every few minutes, interspersed with reports of new fires starting and older ones flaring back up. The 911 recordings from the morning and early afternoon of Aug. 9 were the third batch of calls released by the Maui Police Department in response to a public record request. They show how first responders and emergency dispatchers — many...

DeepMind has helped put researchers hundreds of years ahead of schedule compared to the pace of traditional materials discovery methods. Inorganic crystals are a critical component of modern technologies. Their highly-ordered atomic structures provide them with unique chemical, electronic, magnetic, or optical properties that can be used in everything from batteries to solar panels, microchips to superconductors. Crafting novel inorganic crystals in a lab — whether to enhance an existing technology or power a new one — is fairly straightforward, in theory. A researcher sets up the conditions, runs the procedure, and lets their failures inform how to tweak the...

I cleaned my computer cache (IE files; Internet "history"; and CC cleaner). I then went online to Walmart link. Then my computer screen had the dreaded pseudo Microsoft warning: "You have malware; call our number..." There were several flashing banners, etc. I shut the computer down; rebooted; cleaned cache; etc. I didn't get the scam from the Walmart website, did I? Microsoft's website says this is a common scam currently, and my Malwarebytes didn't catch it. Neither did AVG. Did this piggyback something? Is it a time release program? I was on Zillow, Freerepublic, 3 gun forums, etc. thnx

A bronze artifact salvaged from an ancient Greek shipwreck, recognized as the world’s oldest computer, may hold the secrets of the universe. When we talk of the history of computers, most of us will refer to the evolution of the modern digital desktop PC, charting the decades-long developments by the likes of Apple and Microsoft. What many don’t consider, however, is that computers have been around much longer. In fact, they date back millennia to a time when they were analog creations. Today, the world’s oldest known “computer” is the Antikythera mechanism, a corroded bronze artifact which was found at the...

Hospitals and clinics in five states are facing disruptions due to a cyberattack Thursday that forced some emergency rooms to close. The attack began at facilities operated by Prospect Medical Holdings. The company’s facilities in California, Texas, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania were affected by the cyberattack. “Upon learning of this, we took our systems offline to protect them and launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity specialists,” the company said in a statement Friday.
