Nervous managers of the scheduled 2020 presidential debates are shuffling the logistics and locations to deal with the threat of the coronavirus. But here’s a better idea: Scrap them altogether. And not for health reasons.
The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership. In fact, one could argue that they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president. When we were serious about the presidency, we wanted intelligence, thoughtfulness, knowledge, empathy and, to be sure, likability. It should also go without saying, dignity.
Yet the debates play an outsize role in campaigns and weigh more heavily on the verdict than their true value deserves.

Forever and ever. They’re a complete waste of time.
The China virus is a convenient excuse, they do not want Senile Joe exposed.
All part of the plan, and The NY Times takes the lead. There will be no debates, and the deterioration of Biden therefore cannot be witnessed by large swaths of the citizenry.
Another sickening Democrat liar heard from. What they really want is LET’S SCRAP ELECTIONS.

That was as true in 1960 as it is today, but for some reason the Democrat party hails the 1960 debates as glorious and thrilling and inspiring.

All it takes is having a candidate that is a total mush brain for the liberals to want the debates scrapped. Keep them in place. This year I might actually watch them, just for the comedy.
Get rid of the electoral college, get rid of in person voting, get rid of debates, let’s change all the rules sole the DemoMarxists can win. This is the kind of crap little kids pull isn’t it.
Yes. Because seeing Trump mop the floor with Biden, every state in the Union will go for Trump! AND WELL THEY SHOULD!
The times is lying and takes us for fools! The reason why they don’t want debates is that Trump will knock biden out in the first round. It’s an unfair match, but I don’t care. biden is a frail, mentally weak, morally decrepit old jerk and is no match for a sharp alpha male.
Trump will mercifully finish him off in the first 15 minutes. And then it will be all over except for the biased questions from the media.
It will be very hard for the corrupt media to “spin” Trump’s triumph over Biden.
That's odd. When I was watching the debates in 2015/2016 I knew Mr Trump was precisely what I wanted in my president.
Democrats suck but canceling the debate like an enfeebled coward is a bridge too far and many people will run from Biden if they try this.
Makes me think there truly is something seriously wrong with Biden.
Democrats are pure scum and would not hesitate to elect an alzheimer’s to the presidency.
