Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher met with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who the congressman said denied that Russia was involved in sending him emails from the Democratic National Committee.
WikiLeaks published emails from the Democratic National Committee, which led to the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
He reaffirmed his aggressive denial that the Russians had anything to do with the hacking of the DNC during the election," Rohrabacher said of Assange, the Orange County Register reported.
Rohrabachers statements come despite the fact that U.S. intelligence authorities have said with high confidence that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election.
Rohrabacher is often referred to as Putins favorite congressman for his sympathetic views toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Rohrabachers office said he is the only member of Congress to meet with Assange, the Register reported.
Assange is currently based in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to avoid being extradited to Sweden on charges of sexual assault in Sweden. While charges of Assange have been dropped, he could still be extradited on charges of violating his bail terms.
I think it will have an earth-shattering political impact," Rohrabacher said. "It wouldnt be so important if Democrats hadnt focused so inordinately on the Russians. Democrats are creating a total upheaval over this."
Rohrabacher is being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as one a potential seat to be picked up in the 2018 midterms.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee slammed Rohrabacher for meeting with Assange, calling Assange "an accused rapist and confirmed threat to America's national security."
"The fact that Dana Rohrabacher would meet with Assange, let alone work to secure his freedom, begs the question: Who is he really working for? Because its not the voters who sent him to Congress," DCCC spokesman Andrew Gondinich said in a statement.
So far, two frontrunners to challenge Rohrabacher are Harley Rouda and Hans Keirstead.
Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales rates Rohrabachers race Lean Republican.
Wow. The DNC went there...wow.
Exposing Hillary and Podesta makes you a national security risk.
Waiting and seeing.
Yeah, ok.. will wait and see... I’ve heard this song and dance before...
Yawn, let’s get on with it then. I am so sick of the tease. Heck, I was tired of being teased in high school by Big T*ts Kathy and that was a long time ago.
I will not be surprised if it is revealed.
Wow. The DNC went there...wow."
How soon they forget about Slick and the multiple women who've come forward over the years, accusing him of rape.
How many times have we seen and heard this type of BS.
I have yet to see any fruits of this type of earth shattering news.
oh boy... same goes for Bill Clinton!
...calling Assange “an accused rapist”...
So is Bill Clinton, with more legitimacy.
Speaking of “accused rapists”, the Dems have one of their very own, Slick Willy. Speaking of “national security risks”, they’ve got several of those: Hilly, Huma, DWS/Awans ... Dem’s hypocrisy, as always, is nauseating.
Jeff Feckless isn't going to do anything about it.
Precisely my point...the DNC smears Julian as an ‘accused rapist’ when the party icon is one BILL CLINTON???
So true when we see Hilleary being locked up I might believe some of it.
is this the ‘big news’ that Pres. Trump alluded to with a little smile?
Yawn.
Still waiting for Bullwinkle to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
Clinton is a rapist, add his part in the drug smuggling of cocaine in Arkansas, add kickbacks from insurance sold to state employees in Arkansas, and the list goes on.
Oh, yeah this time it’s a sure thing, the bad guys are going down, and this time they mean it. Sure. Call me when it happens, I’ll be taking a nap. These teases are getting to be tedious.
