Owning the News in 140 Characters
Big League Politics ^ | 7/2/2017 | Larry Schweikart (LS)

Those of you familiar with my columns know that for some time I have argued that Trump’s tweets are anything but “childish reactions” or “temper tantrums” or any other nonsense.

They have been 100% strategic, deliberate, and focused, designed to provide the fake news media with a topic of conversation for a news cycle—or often two or three—while the administration methodically dismantles Barack Obama’s regulative state and erases his very existence from the historical record. Further, I have argued that the nature of the tweets, or the topic, is completely irrelevant and in some cases non-existent (“covfefe”). The point is never, ever the topic of the tweet. The point is the reaction it will provoke from the fake news media that will absorb the news cycle and entirely distract from real policies.

Why in the world would a White House that is succeeding want to distract from its successes?

Ah, grasshopper, you ask a pre-Trump/traditional RINO question.

Trump’s team knew since early in the primary that he would never, ever get fair or objective treatment from the media. Moreover, since early in the primaries, it was clear that even half of the “conservative” media—and ya’ll know who you are—would never really explain Trump’s goals, objectives, or methods but would in knee-jerk fashion bash him so that he couldn’t even count on so-called “friendly” media support.

In other words, the policies would have to be enacted with neither widespread support . . . or criticism. To Team Trump, all you had to do was get the policies in place, and they would speak to the public for themselves, whether in jobs and investment as a result of regulation-cutting and trade policy, meetings with foreign leaders (including both threats and promises), or taking a scythe to the abomination of Deep State

Since writing this, I had a discussion with the editor, Patrick Howley, who told me they withheld my previous column of about two weeks ago for two weeks so as not to let the cat out of the bag too soon. I had submitted "Cheese in the Maze" more than a month ago.

Apparently, they deemed it was ok to release the strategy. Howley is in daily discussions with key people in Team Trump, so more importantly, his admission means that in fact this is exactly what is going on and that it is 100% deliberate on the part of the White House.

Finally, as I started to think about what Trump is doing to the media, I realized in my research for my Reagan biography how Lou Cannon (among others) got all the information for his well-received books, considered the standard works on Reagan: he was the beat reporter in Sacramento who got countless interviews with Reagan as governor, then was able to parlay that into more exclusive interviews when Reagan was president.

It just dawned on me: ALL THESE FAKE NEWS PEOPLE are now being denied their chance at great wealth due to the fact that Trump not only doesn't give them exclusive interviews---they have no interviews or access at all. So Trump's tweeting is hitting him square in the bank account too.

Here's what else - every MSM outlet now can't wait to pile on this latest cheese chase, but in the process:

-----

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump #FraudNewsCNN #FNN 8:21 AM - 2 Jul 2017

-----

They are putting "#FraudNewsCNN #FNN" hashtags all over their own sites! And to add to your list: Trump and Nikki Haley saved us a half-billion bucks from going down the UN rathole while everyone else was watching the cute squirrel ;-)

Great post in the article's comments: It takes a deep level of stupidity to believe Trump is stupid.

I have been on the Trump train since he came down the escalator two years ago. A lot of people can't stand his brashness. I love it!

For those who don't understand Trump read his book "The Art of The Deal". If they can't figure him out after that they are "Lost" and without Hope!

One thing I don’t believe Trump’s team has to worry about is any of the opposition catching on and changing their tactics. They will hunt for the cheese in the maze until their last dying breath.

Same for me. Switched from Cruz to him within seconds.

He sounds and talks like the Jews I grew up around. He has the magnanimity of my dad: the “CEO type guy” who actually really wants to know how the janitor is doing and cares and remembers. I would be very comfortable around Trump (other than the Presidency which would awe me shy).

I never like Trump all those years that he was celebrity. My personal candidate for last election was Walker. All that changed the moment Trump came out forcefully against illegal immigration and moved the Overton window right when the rest of the candidates where in full amnesty mode in a GOP primary. I thought we were screwed until Trump made that move.

I’ve been on the Trump train ever since just based on the his audacity to say what the media doesn’t want said: The Truth.

Cheese in the maze and cats chasing a laser dart works.

As, Rush Limbaugh noted, the mediots are like cats chasing the dot from a laser.

Enjoy. Imagine the Fake News thugs like Jake Tapper or Killer Joe and Ho Mika instead of the cats chasing the laser dot.

1/2, Really? Which half of "conservative" media has explained his goals?

Congrats on decoding the Trump Phenomenon and the subsequent affirmation of it from Team Trump!

Someone needs to re-do that uber-cool dance song from the late 90s called The Funk Phenomenon, but this time around, the singer should sing “The Trump Phenomenon”. And yes, in the video for it, President Trump should dance his goofy dance.

Party on President Trump! And enjoy all the continued accolades that you’ve clearly earned from between Election 2016 and now, LS!
