Top Intel Dem: Congress won't allow Trump to 'so egregiously overstep his authority'

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) ripped President Trump for his criticism of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Friday, saying that if Trump were to try to fire Rosenstein and special counsel Robert Mueller, Congress would “unite to stop him.”

"It has become clear that President Trump believes that he has the power to fire anyone in government he chooses and for any reason, including special counsel Robert Mueller,” the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said in a statement. “That is not how the rule of law works, and Congress will not allow the President to so egregiously overstep his authority.”

"If President Trump were to try to replicate [former President Richard] Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre by firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in addition to Mueller, Congress must unite to stop him – without respect to party, and for the sake of the nation.”

Schiff’s statement follows reports that Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice by Mueller as part of his broader investigation into potential ties between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials.

Trump fired back at those reports on Twitter Friday, seeming to attack Rosenstein. He tweeted that he was “being investigated” for firing former FBI Director James Comey “by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director,” an apparent reference to Rosenstein.

Schiff said Thursday that the House Intelligence Committee should include an investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired Comey as part of its broader investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“I think it needs to be part of the investigation,” he said. “Congress has to get to the bottom of whether anybody is interfering or obstructing any investigation in any way.”

I think this must be what this liberal quack meant to say a few years ago. Otherwise he would be a hypocrite.

Terrible, isn’t it? Eight long, dreadful Obama years when he unconstitutionally overstepped presidential powers time after time and not a peep out of the Republicans. Not one peep.

Now, with phony ginned-up “scandal” we get this crap from Dems which will amp up the completely phony “scandals” even more. I’m SO sick of Dems destroying our country and Repubs sitting back and casually taking it.

“...Congress would unite to stop him...”

Congress doesn’t unite about anything, let alone this.

Isn’t there a law on the books that does not allow the prosecutor investigating a “crime” (in quotes in this case - there is no crime here) to have a relationship with a witness?

Congress is not going to unite to stop the firing of Mueller since his relationship with Comey violates a statute that should have precluded Mueller from being appointed in the first place.

Mueller needs to be fired - the media storm will be fierce but no worse than when Comey was fired. It will not cause President Trump’s base to abandon him because we have figured out that the media is the enemy so we won’t pay much attention.

Only Democrat presidents may “overstep their authority”.

Trump prerogatives are being legislated into the ash can on the subject of “muh Russia”, for example. It is important for socialist Republicans to cue up with the Democrats for this usurpation of the Executive Branch and to diminish Trump’s role as Commander In Chief, while interfering with his foreign relations agenda.

We are such push overs. Who is impressed with these vague remarks being served up as “evidence” that Russia interfered with our election?

What countries don’t?

Many countries phish. Many countries use influence. The USA is just as active in interfering, as Obama proved against Netanyahu, and pour in cash to influence.

....for the sake of the nation....

Actually, for the sake of the Democrats who lost on November 8th.
Schiffty seems to be unaware of the mood of the 63 million and the 30 states whose Electoral College votes put the President in office.
