Trump should shrug off John Lewis’ cookie-cutter insults
The New York Post ^ | January 17, 2017 | Post Editorial Board

President-elect Donald Trump is paying too much heed to the ranting of civil-rights veteran John Lewis: The Georgia congressman’s been playing the same tune about every top Republican for years now.

Yes, Lewis’ accusation was baseless and blatantly partisan: He said Trump isn’t a “legitimate president” because of Russian hacking, and he’d skip the inauguration, “the first one I’ve missed since I’ve been in Congress.”

Oops: He didn’t attend George W. Bush’s inauguration in 2001, either — charging that Dubya wasn’t truly elected.

Last year, Lewis said Trump “reminds me so much of the things that George Wallace said and did.” But he said the same in 2008 about Sen. John McCain, whose presidential run was “sowing the seeds of hatred and division” and “reminds me too much of another destructive period in our history.”

McCain, by the way, had lavished praise on Lewis over the years and ID’d him as one of “three wise men” he’d consult as president....

I guess I’ll have to agree to disagree with the Post’s editorial board.

I think not. Trump should shrug off nothing. That was what W Bush did, thinking it indicated silent strength. The poll numbers nearly killed him and the Right didn’t appreciate his limp lip, always avoiding a confrontation on very big things.

TRUMP enlists the Giuliani philosophy.. cut them off at the knees on the smaller stuff and there is less of the big stuff ever to get a hold.

Yeah, the “shrugging off” approach worked so well for Bush ‘43.

In my opinion Lewis and other leftist Democrats & media have called Trump’s Presidency and all of us who voted for President Elect Trump “illegitimate.”

This statement in and of itself is promoting possible violent disruptions!

Leftist democrat groups have been hired to disrupt the inaugural. They are paid mercenaries, they are NOT grassroots protesters in the true democratic tradition such as the MLK protests.

I must ask why is Lewis and so many other leftist Democrat congressional representatives not attending? Have they been warned to stay away?

“Trump should shrug off John Lewis’ cookie-cutter insults”

Why? Anytime you can destroy a racist, commie who hates America, do it.

The New Jerk Post is too soft for my taste.

Somewhere here said it best: Lewis threw a grenade. He should have known President Trump would throw back an ICBM. Do not mess with The Donald, LOL!

Exactly!!!! GW didn’t stick up for himself nor his staff. What a loser he ended up being.

But all things considered, at least The Goron wasn’t elected POTUS.

Bush’s father got treated the same as Bush Jr., with the same effect.

Reagan did a bit better by also ignoring the criticisms...our side at least liked him - but the left was making fun of him non-stop and Reagan never got any respect from half the country.

Trump’s approach will do MUCH BETTER.

The problem with the right is that they’ve let too much of these insults slide. People then think they’re credible. It’s refreshing to see someone finally fighting back.

Lying nasty mouth Democrats never shrug off anything They attack and they are vicious. I am tired of people on our side always being told to allow them to attack and smear and never respond.

If some self righteous jackass called my presidency illegitimate, I’d have to tell him to go self copulate.
