Time to Face It: Trump Really Could Win This
Politico Magazine ^ | September 14, 2016 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 09/15/2016 1:24:36 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

If Democrats are starting to panic, they should. What else do they have to throw at him?

If you aren’t seriously contemplating the biggest black swan event in American electoral history, you aren’t paying attention.

Fifteen months ago, Donald Trump was a reality-TV star with a spotty business record and a weird penchant for proclaiming he was on the verge of running for president. Now, he’s perhaps a few big breaks and a couple of sterling debate performances away from being elected 45th president of the United States.

Trump has no experience in elected office, and unlike past nonpoliticians elected president, hasn’t won a major war. He barely has a national campaign. He perhaps knows less about public affairs than the average congressman. He has repeatedly advertised his thin-skinned vindictiveness and is trampling on basic political norms, like the convention of candidates releasing their tax returns.

No major political party has ever nominated anyone like this. If Trump were to prevail, it would make Barack Obama’s unlikely rise from unknown state senator to first African-American president of the United States in about four years look like a boringly conventional political trajectory.

Obama seemed to come out of nowhere, but his steps to the presidency — law degree, state office, U.S. senator — were stereotypical. Trump won the Republican nomination despite — or because of? — attributes that would have seemed disqualifying two years ago, such as, to name a few, his personal life, his longtime support for Democrats, his newly minted, hard-to-credit social conservatism, his disdain for Republican orthodoxy, and his basic lack of preparation.

Trump now has a legitimate shot at winning the general because he got the lucky draw of at least the second-worst presidential nominee in recent memory....

Lowry is a patronizing jerk. Trump may not have won a foreign war, but he single handedly broke the strangle hold that the Politically Correct bullies have been enjoying over American political discussion, since 1992. If Lowry really understood the intellectual battle for an American future, he would appreciate that. That he does not appreciate that condemns him to total irrelevance in an American future.

He is only a pathetic pseudo intellectual joke.

It's funny that they would rather dump on Hillary now, instead of recognizing that the establishment and elite political class has been screwing America for decades. That is why Trump is on the verge of winning.

As flawed as he is, he is the first candidate with the necessary resources to pledge to end the grip of corruption and insider cronyism.

These writers have no idea that most of the country is sick of them. And it wouldn't matter if it was Biden, Warren, Bernie, or Obama seeking a third term. The GOP put out their best candidates, and Trump beat them all.

I wonder what the old George Will is thinking now, who wishes Trump would lose in all 50 states.

Not long ago there was a poll where Trump was catching up to Hillary in Rhode Island.

You forgot the barf alert— but wait, no. There it is, the article was written by Rich Lowry. That’s an alert enough for me.

Trump got lucky.

Bullshit.

It's fascinating how engaging in tireless hard work and sticking to one's guns produces so much "luck"...

Vote Trump!

Nobody remembers Wendell Willkie...he was a businessman, not a politician (1940 Republican nominee).

No one remembers any of the poor saps who ran (and lost) against FDR.

Hillary Clinton ain't no FDR, and Donald Trump ain't no Wendell Willkie...

Vote Trump!

Anxious to see Al Sharpton and Barbara Streisand get on the plane to leave the USA. THAT is going to be a great headline.

Hillary is the worst candidate the Democrats have ever nominated.

No one cares what she says.

And #NeverTrumper Lowry can’t stand that Trump is gonna win it!

Sucks to be him.

Rich Lowry should be at home with Politico being the rabid NeverTrumper/Pro Hillary (what’s the difference?) that he is.

Willkie was the first globalist Presidential candidate. Trump is running as an opponent of the globalism that Willkie supported.

I dumped my subscription to NR eight years ago when they went after Sarah Palin in much the same manner as they are after Trump today. I recall Lowry wrote an op-ed that basically said to those of us who didn’t appreciate the editorial tone, DLTDHYOTWO. I can take a hint.

I’m sorry to say that Bill Buckley also proved to be pretty much an elitist douche in the end. He refused to acknowledge the illegitimate child that his (inarguably a douche) son Christopher fathered. The Newport sailing and country club set has been riding us rubes for money and votes for decades. No more.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Republican Party has zero interest in changing the leftward trajectory of this country. Hell, they have zero interest in being in the majority. They get all of the same perks by being in the minority (minus the offices with good views) without the responsibility and accountability of actually, you know, governing.

Time to bury them with the Whigs.

Lowry and the Losers would make a good rock band, singing the blues and crying into their cornflakes.

We’ve watched these puff heads huff and howl for months against TRUMP and it just hasn’t mattered.

TRUMP voters have never even flinched.

Gingrich: Trump represents change-oriented leadership;

GINGRICH: . . . My view is, if you so love the past that you want to write off the future, then “never Trump” makes some sense. Cling to the failed ideas. Cling to the failed bureaucracy. Cling to the projects that didn't work. Cling to the war we didn't win.

If that's what you want to do, that your right as a citizen. Don't expect the rest of us to be impressed with it. This is a sign that you're so mired down in the past, you're so unable to see reality, you're so unwilling to look at the future...

National Review believes everyone that supports Trump is also deplorable. Dropped my subscription after their support for the “new” ideas for the party after 2012.

I’m old enough to remember that in the last week running up to Reagan’s complete destruction of Carter, every news program was saying the polls were “too close to call”. This is more of the same.
