In an increasingly contentious presidential campaign, just a quarter of voters who support Donald Trump in the general election say they have a lot or some close friends who are supporters of Hillary Clinton. Even fewer Clinton backers (18%) say they have at least some friends who support Trump.
Nearly half of Clinton supporters (47%), and 31% of Trump supporters, say they have no close friends who support the opposing candidate.
The survey conducted June 7-July 5 among 4,602 adults, including 3,834 registered voters, on Pew Research Centers nationally representative American Trends Panel finds that large majorities of both Trump and Clinton supporters have friends who back their preferred candidates.
More than four-in-ten Trump supporters (44%) say they have a lot of close friends who back Trump, while another 38% say they have some friends who support him. Similarly, most Clinton supporters say they have a lot (41%) or some close friends (40%) who also express support for Clinton.
Clinton and Trump backers also are far more likely to talk about the election with those who favor their candidate than with those who back the opponent. In the survey, conducted before the party conventions, most voters (67%) say the election comes up in conversation at least somewhat often, but only 23% say it comes up very often....

It’s often that way in the last four months of a presidential campaign. The only reason there hasn’t been even more conflict between the two voter factions, is probably because both clients maintain a very high negative rating, even now.
No close friends, cause they don’t use deodorant, and don’t eat meat. (tonight BBQ steak for me and BidEdLB, Jr, and pork chop for Mrs BigEdLB)
Chelsea and Ivanka?
I lost more what I thought were friends in the Primaries, and they are still very hostile.
My brother and I are going to leave our money to our nieces...but only Conservative nieces. Right now, two nieces are do to collect.
So what?
Stupid.
I don’t have ANY friends who are Hildebeast supporters, let alone any close friends. I have cousins in California, that I wouldn’t give the time of day to, as they support the Hildebeast.
Unfortunately, my closest family members hate and fear Trump and I am the only Trump supporter among them. It’s lonely until I come here to FR and am among true friends.
“I lost more what I thought were friends in the Primaries, and they are still very hostile.”
I stopped trying to be friends with the other side after Obama won in 2008. Some of their friends joked about sending all Republicans to extermination camps. That was it for me. Know me by the friends I keep and the enemies I have.
Well you have family here.
after Clinton was elected the second time,I said to my brother-”who voted for him,I don’t know anyone who did?”
He said we don’t associate with people who would do a thing like that.

For the liberals/socialists, this is The Election to finally boot our democratic republic to the curb.
For conservatives, this is just one more battle to block the lib/socialists from finally taking our liberty away from us. But, we also know that if we lose This One, there will never be another true election again in this country. Oh...there’ll be Chavez or Castro type elections, with the winner predetermined, but fair elections...? No.
The percentages above are the smart people, on both sides, that understand this is a watershed election. Both sides also realize, regardless of which side wins, we will probably, eventually, be meeting each other in the street...in armed resistance. Friendships with those of the other side will be deadly. Family relationships will have dissolved. Therell be no Thanksgiving dinner with our enemies.
I have more than a few and we either aren’t really speaking much these days or avoid politics in conversation altogether.
They try to camouflage their support in numerous ways. Among them are: 1. Never Trump, he is not a [fill in blank. 2. Anybody but Trump because he [fill in blank. I don't trust Trump. They never made this statement concerning obama. 3.I don't like Hillary or Trump. I won't vote for either. They actually are supporting Hillary. They are just ashamed to admit it. There are many more. These are just those that jumped out at me.
Ping
I don’t have close friends who would vote for Hillary. Close friends are people who you discuss most anything and subject. Therefore, by definition.....
Some of my closest friends from a political stand point are people I met a Trump Rally.
Vote Trump 2016
Same here; one of my bridesmaids from the 1960s destroyed a gift I had given her in 1969. Then told me it was my fault.
