Dump Trump? Paul Ryan leaves door open to Republican convention revolt
The Manchester Guardian ^ | June 19, 2016 | Dan Roberts, Washington Bureau chief

Pressure for one last attempt to dump Donald Trump built among Republicans on Sunday, as the party’s leader appeared to encourage a possible revolt that could still see an alternative nominee chosen at next month’s national convention.

After a week in which the presumptive nominee appalled many colleagues with his reaction to a shooting massacre in Orlando, House speaker Paul Ryan made clear he would not try to obstruct any rebellion against Trump by delegates in Cleveland.

“They write the rules, they make the decisions,” he told NBC’s Meet the Press. “All I want to make sure is to make sure it is done above board, clearly, honestly and by the rules.”

As the highest-ranking Republican in Congress, Ryan will serve as chairman of the party’s convention in late July, when delegates won through primaries formally elect a nominee....

It is basic English. It simply means some people are sore losers. No class.

Ryan is a real POS. Say what you will about the other side, but they know how to close ranks and stick together. Unfortunately, the GOP has too many people like Ryan who are just out for themselves.

I think the original plan was for the GOP to annoint him as a savior at a brokered convention. However, Trump’s margin of victory makes that infeasible. So, instead, he wants to “Goldwater” Trump’s campaign. That is, ensure Trump loses so badly that the Party will have no one else to go to in 2020.

However, methinks that Ryan is just succeeding in making himself toxic. I will not vote for him under any circumstances.

I think Trump should secretly fund Ryan's opponent. Send a few trusted surrogates to Wisconsin to help the guy. Tell the people of his district how he is screwing all of America. And start back room talks with supporters in Congress about replacing Ryan as speaker.

In fact, he should tell all Congressmen that they should "vote their conscience" when deciding whether to keep Ryan as speaker.

Be sure you convince a bunch of other voters also. Let me know where I can send a campaign contribution.

A good many of those who voted for The Donald did so not because he was some kind of conservative, but because he looks and acts like the sort of person who will actively DO SOMETHING about the mess in Washington, and restore the America people always knew it could be again.

If conservative principles are the means by which that vision of America could be restored, fine, but the question comes up, just what IS “conservative” supposed to mean, anyway? Many who style themselves to be “conservative” don’t have the courage of their supposed convictions, and fold like a badly made cheap tent when confronted by challenges to that set of values.

The Donald blows up “political correctness”, and this is what has built his most impressive mobilization of opinion.

A bull in a china shop would have something to learn from The Donald.

It’s a risky move for Trump, but it’s something that needs to be done. Go for Ryan’s throat & let the chips fall where they will.

“A bull in a china shop would have something to learn from The Donald.”

Cold War joke: when Red China displaced Taiwan in the U.N., it was said that there was now a China in the bull shop.

Anyway, FUPR!!

If these RATs did succeed in sabotaging Trump's campaign, and they nominate Ryan or one of the other saboteurs, we absolutely should refuse to support them. Hopefully, Trump will start a new party if that happens. Even if he doesn't, I can hear it now--do you want Ryan or to reelect Hillary? Here's my response:

Do you want Petain, or to just vote for Hitler directly.

Another analogy is to the Iranian election system. The mullahs decide who can run, and then the voters get to "decide" which one should be president. Sometimes they select the "moderate" and sometimes they select the fundamentalist. But the people keep the illusion of having a choice. In America, the Uniparty and the Media are the "mullahs" and we are the dummies told to choose. We need to refuse to play that game.

Show me 2 meaningful things so called “conservatives” such as Cruz have accomplished...

Obamacare defunded?
Budget deficits eliminated?
National debt reduced?
Food stamps reduced?
Foreign Trade deficits reduced from ONE TRILLION $$ EVERY YEAR?
Wall built?
Muslim imigration without proper vetting stopped?
All Illegals deported?
ISIS defeated?

Whisky Tango Foxtrot have the conservatives accomplished with majority in both houses?

I don't mind seeing what people who oppose Trump are saying. It is important to be aware of what we are up against. But to receive it as a drumbeat can also be part of an effort to dishearten Trump's supporters. You are not part of an operation to dishearten or weaken Trump support, are you?

Since you like to post articles from a wide variety of sources, I am assuming you post lots of articles that are favorable to Trump. Has that been the case?

Thank you for remarks in Post #29.

On June 17, I posted the following:

Early on, Newt Gingrich may have made the most insightful observation, as reported on the Fox Radio web site:
"“I don’t think of Trump as a traditional conservative but I think what Trump is, is an anti-left, anti-political correctness, anti-stupidity American nationalist. I think he may do more to break up the left than any conservative in our lifetime except maybe Reagan.” - -Newt Gingrich on whether Trump is a conservative.
A major reason for Trump's ability to attract voters and to arouse ordinary citizens is that Trump expresses, as do the millions of citizens who react positively to his politically "incorrect" statements, a visceral reaction to the consequences of:

- decades of coercive "progressive" control and pretended superiority among "elitists";

- years of declining wages and economic freedom for their families; lack of freedom to choose the best schools for their children;

- lack of a perception of safety in a land which, for over 200 years relied on "freedom through strength," now perceived as weak and apologetic for having been known as the literal "breadbasket" of the world and a welcome refuge for the world's oppressed individuals;

- failure to protect and promote the Constitution as the "supreme law" of the land, limiting the powers of government, including the Executive and other elected officials.

- increasing censorship of speech imposed by phony "political correctness rules";

- increasing emphasis on coercively eliminating population increases by killing the unborn, but, at the same time, encouraging population increases through illegal immigration;

- and on and on and on . . . .
