In Indianas competitive 9th Congressional District Republican primary race, theres a big spender. A really big spender. His name is Joseph A. Trey Hollingsworth III (Roll Call has already delved into other oddities about his candidacy , like how hes from Tennessee), and hes been blanketing the airwaves with campaign ads in the five-way race for GOP Rep. Todd Youngs open seat which is rated Safe Republican by the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call. There are unique challenges in the contest, like how no one in his adopted hometown of Jeffersonville has really seen him outside of their TV screens, but money isnt one of them.

A rich carpetbagger from Tennessee is trying to buy a Congressional seat. I hope he fails.
Todd young is going for senate I think. He’s leaving the house.
Indiana ping
You’re correct. He’s in a primary with fellow Congressman Marlin Stutzman.
He seems good. I am visiting my sister and family in Indiana now and lots of commercials from him. My sister, brother in law, my nephew and girlfriend are all voting for him and trump of course.
Todd Young is acceptable, but Marlin Stutzman is better.
Oh wow. I may have to study some. I am not familiar with Indiana politics and my sister has only lived here two years. Thanks! We have time. :-)
We have a similar problem in Tennessee, with a rich carpetbagger from California trying to buy a House seat (with his parents money) out from under 4th district incumbent Dr. DesJarlais in the GOP primary. He has no links to the district at all.
Stutzman has a perfect 100% Conservative rating from the ACU while Young is to the left of Sen. Dan Coats (88% lifetime) with an 82% rating in 2015 (76% in 2014). 85% is considered a “Conservative”, below that is a RINO “Moderate.” We could do without those.
I’m a Hoosier and thus far I like him too.
Did the California carpetbagger running against DesJarlais have sex with several of his medical patients and pressure his girlfriend into having an abortion? If not, I’d take him over DesJarlais.
And if you don’t like the carpetbagger, there’s always Dr. Fapas or whatever his name is.
Nobody says what DesJarlais did was remotely good or acceptable, but it happened a decade before he ever entered public office and none of it has had an impact on his voting record, which (again) remains the best of the entire state federal delegation.
I’ll take a sinner with an excellent voting record over someone of impeccable private morality who votes horribly. Of course, I don’t have a say, since I live in the adjacent 5th district where I have the latter type of individual in Jim Cooper, and I’d rather have DesJarlais.
DesJ is a creep who has embarrassed conservatives with his shameful scandal, this other dude may be a carpetbagger but he sounds like a solid conservative so I don’t care where he’s from. But a lot of people don’t like that. I can’t fault DJ for his position but I’d vote against DesJ in the primary.
Joseph Hollingsworth has been hiding from the voters of Indiana for months. I am one of the four Democrats campaigning for the nomination for IN09. I have met all the other Republican candidates several times (except Erin Houchin [only met once]). Bob Hall, Brent Waltz, and Greg Zoeller attend debates and public functions, happy to face the electorate. Joseph Hollingsworth has been invisible since October of last year. The voters of Indiana are savvy enough that they will not be fooled by slick politicians or allow their votes to be bought by money from outside the district.
Todd Young sold out the voice and the vote of The People of southern Indiana for a plum seat on Ways and Means. For six years he has represented the GOPe and big-monied special interests, like the Chamber of Commerce, not IN09 Hoosiers. Only two of the nine candidates campaigning for this seat had the courage of their convictions to face incumbent Todd Young and his war chest, Bob Hall and Myself. All the other candidates entered the race only after Todd declared his illegal run for Senate. I have been getting very positive response at the debates and other public appearance. I know My presence in the race has moved both Democrat and Republican candidates to speak in favor of limited government and individual Liberty. The Salem Leader debate is a prime example. Several of the Republican candidates quoted Me, nearly word for word, on key issues. If this seat is safe for one of the johnny-come-lately Republican candidates, why are they all trying to sound like a Jeffersonian Anti-Federalist statesman?
James R. McClure Jr.
Jeffersonian Anti-Federalist Democrat candidate for IN09
The carpetbagger succeeded “Trey” Hollingsworth won with a third of the vote in a divided field. Another Trey, yay. He won with the usual “outsider” spiel that’s so popular right now. All some rich idiot has to do to get rubes to vote for him is say “I’m a Tea Party outsider”. Just like the guy from Louisiana, McAllister or whatever his name was.
I’m absolutely not saying Mr. Hollingsworth is a RINO (or an idiot that matter), I know nothing about him. I’m just saying, it’s real easy for someone with no record to claim they’re super awesome. I buy it when they prove it.
In the Senate race, Todd Young won 2-1 over Stutzman. I’d love to see exit polls correlated with the Presidential vote.
For Stutzman’s open seat, the winner by a nose was State Senator Jim Banks.
Rep. Larry Bucshon won renomination by 30 points. His primary challenger did the best of any challengers to incumbents, but not by much.

Congressional filings has closed in Minnesota
CD 1, 2014 nominee Jim Hagedorn is rematching rat Congressman Tim “Timmuh” Walz. Walz won by 8 points last time. Obama/Romney was a near tie
CD 2, John Kline (R) is retiring. Another near tie in potus voting. Radio talk show host Jason Lewis, the 1990 GOP nominee in Colorado’s district 2 (Boulder) won the party endorsement at the state convo but faces 2 real primary challengers, more notably former State Senator John Howe, who seems to be running to Lewis’s left and has raised more money, the rats are running a self funding moneybags witch. I’m worried.
CD 7, After facing a strong opponent last time, rat in a Republican district Collin “Colon” Petersen gets a pass, faces a desultory GOP foe. :(
CD 8, 2014 nominee Stewart Mills is rematching rat Congressman Rick “Little Ricky Martin” Nolan, he nearly beat him last time in a the rat leaning but GOP trending seat.
Is any Senate seats up grabs in Minnesota?
Democrats have a credible candidate against Erik Paulson, a local state Senator is running.
