Ted Cruz: Now the odds-on favorite
CNN Politics ^ | April 6, 2016 | David Gergen, Senior Political Analyst

With his decisive victory in Wisconsin, Sen. Ted Cruz has not only shaken up the Republican presidential race, but heading into the homestretch, he has suddenly become the odds-on favorite to win the nomination in Ohio.

With 16 primaries and caucuses remaining, Donald Trump has to win 70% of the delegates to secure the 1,237 needed to win a first ballot at the Republican convention. Several states are coming up that are more favorable territory for Trump than Cruz, especially New York and Pennsylvania where Trump still has significant leads.

Even so, winning more than two thirds of the remaining delegates is a daunting challenge for him. In the 36 primaries and caucuses leading up to Wisconsin, Trump won only 46% of the delegates. And now he heads down a tough homestretch with Cruz seizing the momentum.

In a year crammed with surprises, no one can say for sure what will unfold in Cleveland, Ohio. But there are two likely outcomes: First, Cruz and Trump have each vowed to vote against a change in the GOP's Rule 40. That's an obscure provision that requires any candidate to win at least eight primaries and caucuses before he or she can be nominated....

I almost feel sorry for the poor, deluded Cruz fanboys who are going to be scratching their heads at the end of April, when Trump's already formidable delegate lead is bigger than it is right now, wondering what happened.

"But, but, CNN told me...!"

with Cruz seizing the momentum.

Sounds like they're selling the same bologna they were after Iowa.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Neither of them are going to walk into Cleveland with 1,237. That dream is over. The denial around here is just sad. It’s a contested convention whether you like it or not.

Excuse me.

Trump needs to debate Cruz one on one.

But he’s Chick’n so he won’t.

He’ll get his butt handed to Himself. Believe me.

Trump is not man enough. He’s EVERYTHING HE HAS ACCUSED OTHERS OF BEING. You know the list.

And don’t give me this crap “They’ve already debated.” We both know that those debates were watered down entertainment venues. I’m talking about an issues debate, man to man.

A debate will descend to garbage attacks because Trump has beef with Cruz and Cruz is descending into attacking Trump with lies and innuendos. Just like the other primaries. Nobody gets anywhere.

Trump needs to debate Cruz one on one.

You know, it wouldn't shock me if he gave in and agreed to another debate. This is because (1) He has an idea that he 'won' the previous debates and Drudge and similar online polls confirm him in this dubious belief; and (2) He's going to be desperate to do something to shake up the race as he likely realizes now that the 'prevent defense' approach isn't getting him to 1,237.

One on one.

We’ll see the character of the two men. It’ll be evident who is qualified and who is not.

*pssst*

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hkgLa844MzTgeqcmrkeSrLnq7vJJZl2S7lMz8Qf5xq8/edit#gid=0

summing up the states where Trump is favored: NY, MD, PA, CA, and NJ

these bring in 427 delegates... taking Trump from 755 to 1182

which leaves him with 55 delegates to pull from the remaining 342.

so yea... looks like Trump will get the lock

The convention will be contested and brokered and there’s going to be a lot of pi**ed off Republicans. I would bet money on it.

Only in Teddy world - Teddy the TOOL is doing what the masters decide and all the kings men write about it to continue the scam.

It would be hilarious if it weren’t so dangerous.

I thought cruzettes could think through this fraud, but sigh, they are too naive, too entrenched or paid too much.

Trump will have the necessary delegates and avoid a convention fight.

Cruz will not be able to defeat Hillary or even Sanders in the general election.

In fact, it’s unlikely that any Republican can win the presidency anymore.

With the SCOTUS decision that Representatives are allocated on the basis of non-citizens as well as citizens, that’s pretty much the end of the country.

We’ve been going downhill for many years, but this will accelerate it considerably.

Trump gets a lock and his term ends the GOPe.

A convention fight ends the GOPe.

It’s a win-win as far as I can see.

Just read about voter fraud in Wisconsin.
Cruz will do whatever it takes to win.
This needs to stop, what can we do to get fair elections.

All the states you list, except PA which is a swing lean Dem, will go to the Dem in the general. Of course Donald J. Trump will win them. Even if DJT is the nominee, he will very likely lose all of these and his home state of NY in the general. Too many hardcore liberals and a well oiled party machine here. Ironic that DJT’s firewall is also the Dems firewall. After this group, the field is more conservative and Cruz friendly.
