He challenged caucus-goers to bring nine people along with them to caucus.
He said that's the ticket for him becoming the next president of the United States.
"We will win the nomination, and we will go on to win in 2016 and beat Hillary Clinton and turn this country around," said Cruz, who didn't mention Donald Trump during his speech.
Supporters packed the Gateway Hotel in Ames, forcing dozens to watch from the hallway.
"He doesn't trash anybody, and he runs a very positive campaign. I like it," said Cruz supporter Jeff Snyder.
Snyder said he knew he'd caucus for Cruz months ago and is determined to convince others to do the same.
"I'm going to call friends, family. Everybody's going to be there," Snyder said.....

WOAH! Judgement gives way to ambition.
I have been hearing various accounts, including one here in which he apparently knew and did not apologize, though the devil (and angels) is in the details.
Ted is getting stress tested, which is good. We can see what is likely to result from that in the future.
I do know this. Ted seems to strike a more selfish pose than Donald has. Donald gets pretty vicious sometimes, but it generally is in the context of defending his ideas of American greatness. For Ted, it doesn’t seem to go much of anywhere except trying to make him look good.
He challenged caucus goers to bring 9 people and then when that didn’t work he sent them a shaming letter. :-)
“WOAH! Judgement gives way to ambition.”
Well said.
A dunderhead, amateur move. I'll bet that Cruz himself wasn't consulted on this ahead of time. This is too obviously damaging to the campaign. Now that it's done Cruz has to defend it publicly, but I'd wager that behind the scene a few heads will roll.
Except that there is not any evidence that Trump has been “born again” of the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ, Cruz on the other hand through word and deed does show a genuine faith. Has he been perfect:Absolutely not, but that doesn’t make him less a Christian to have sinned. Just my 2, -JS
TPP CITIZENS FUND PROUDLY ENDORSES TED CRUZ FOR PRESIDENT

And Trump has missed it all. Politics is a rough and tumble business and it requires hardball tactics at times.
Trump lies about Cruz’ eligibility and his supporters simply repeat his lies without knowing the law on the matter. You don’t see a problem with that. Cruz’ mother was a natural born citizen, so that makes him a natural born citizen. It’s really that simple. Federal statutes confirm that he is a natural born citizen. Trump’s mother was not a natural born citizen. Being naturalized did not make her a natural born citizen.
Voter participation records a public information available to anyone who wants them, and that’s a good thing. It helps citizens research people who might be voting illegally.
I don’t understand why the flyer says “VOTING VIOLATION”...seems it would say...VOTING FACTS....since that is what the info in the flyer is presenting.
Intimidation. That flyer was meant, in violation of federal election laws, to attempt to coerce the recipient into voting and incentivizing their neighbors to vote. Lousy strategy.
[Perhaps they were “conservative”, but just not that good of a candidate?]
I live in Illinois. It takes many conservatives to vote in order to overcome Chicago and East St. Louis.
Personal information? LOL...I sat through presentations to GOP groups in the past couple years about the plans for the Database they are putting together (one an international company)....it was ginormous...includes everything from what people purchase (magazines, food, etc) to their tax status, etc...anything that is publicly available. I wasn’t keen on it ... seemed TOO much information to me.
From a PR perspective seems stupid.
The real shame come when you realize your Trump vote was a vote for partial birth abortion.
Pastor Trumps sermon of the 2 Corinthians?
I’d begin to be concerned if it was from 3 Corinthians!
Sounds like a desperation accusation move on your part.
He didn’t come to run on any past agenda, but on a new one.
I have been on the couch for the past 3 days, with my phone turned off, trying to survive the Cold from Hell. So I haven’t talked to many people. I am not aware of anyone locally who received the mailer. I think it was a pretty narrow universe. But I read several posts on FB from people who received them. These posts were on One Iowa Conservative page,, and I think another was on a GOP Women’s page. There’s no doubt in my mind that it happened,, especially given the Cruz Campaign acknowledgement and his refusal to apologize.
