Ames, Iowa - Donald Trump confirmed two things during a stop in this central Iowa town Saturday: He has no class and he may well run as an independent when he does not win the Republican nomination.
There had been considerable public evidence of both long before his appearance here today at the Family Leader Summit but Trump, who is leading several national polls of the Republican primary, erased any doubt with comments he made about Senator John McCain and a prospective independent bid.
Trump was answering questions from Republican pollster Frank Luntz on stage when he declared that John McCain, who spent six years as a POW in Vietnam, was not a war hero. Trump went on to express his preference for soldiers who weren’t captured, suggesting a belief that prisoners of war have some say in their captivity. Luntz had asked Trump about his reaction to McCain’s comment that Trump had stirred up the “crazies” with his candidacy. When Trump attacked McCain, Luntz asked if Trump was comfortable with that kind of criticism of a war hero.
“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” The comments clearly shocked the crowd at the summit, some of whom reacted with boos and shouts of condemnation.
McCain was shot down flying combat missions in Vietnam on October 26, 1967. He was taken captivity with a broken right leg and fractures in both arms. He was beaten and tortured repeatedly, in part because his father commanded the U.S. Navy in the Pacific....

My thoughts as well. Third Party Trump -> President Hillary.

Rove et. al. have been trying to make this one stick for some time. They need to undermine Trump’s support.
How quickly they pile on, desperately hoping to bring Trump down. Steve Hayes ia another ‘conservative’ who can stand an outsider like Trump who isn’t part of the DC insider club.
Call it wishful thinking or whatever you want, but someone who would say something like “I like people who weren’t captured,” about any POW has no business serving as commander in chief. And certainly no business calling himself a conservative.
You don't become a hero by getting captured by the enemy.
You become a hero by capturing the enemy and making them your prisoners.
We have been trying the warn the “Conservatives” on this site...

With all due respect, McCain fought for our country...and admirably. Trump should have focused his fire on Kerry and Gore (who also “fought” in Vietnam). I understand his need to bash McCain, but this was beneath him.
He suffered a LOT under the torture of his captors. He stayed alive. He might have never been the same after that, but to say he isn’t a hero, is bunk.
As someone said earlier, until Trump goes through the torture McCain suffered, he should shut his pie hole.
Have you stopped to consider that people may be “piling on” because Trump’s comments were mind-blowingly stupid, and show his propensity to say mind-bogglingly stupid things?
No one who has paid even the slightest bit of attention to Trump during his entire career should be even the slightest bit surprised that he said something as stupid as he said today.

A) Calling his supporters (mostly Tea Party) Crazies. B) for treating Vets Hospitals badly, C) being for open borders for his rich cheap labor capitalists. Trump aint no Democrat—that is the recycled Ross Perot playbook. The vichy Republicans think one false word will make Trump go away—they are wrong. This will not elect Bush III or Chrispy Cream, or Rubio Burrito. They will do all they can to knock trump out before the debates!
