Ted Cruz and Donald Trump to Meet in NYC

Republican presidential contenders Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and billionaire developer Donald Trump will meet Wednesday at Trump Tower in New York City.

The meeting was confirmed by Republican Party members familiar with each campaign, The Washington Post reports. Aides to both candidates declined to comment on the matter.

This will not be the pair's first meeting, however. Cruz traveled to Trump Tower in November 2013 to seek the businessman's support as he weighed his White House bid.

The first-term senator announced that he was running in March.

Trump has come under fire for remarks about illegal immigration made during his announcement speech last month.

Respondents in the latest USA Today/Suffolk University Poll cited his views in helping to propel him to the top of the list of GOP contenders, with 17 percent. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush followed, with 14 percent.

While Trump has been slammed by opponents ranging from Bush to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Cruz has steadfastly refused to attack the developer for his comments.

"I like Donald Trump," he told Chuck Todd in a "Meet the Press" interview earlier this month on NBC. "He’s bold, he’s brash."(continued)

I'd pay good money to know what that's about.

no one thinks trump is going to stay in the race very long. running for president is pretty hard work; that leaves trump out.

I assume cruz is making an early play to grease the skids for an endorsement once trump decides he wants to go back to being a full time billionaire.

Wouldn’t it be the greatest if they both said...”This is our team. Whoever wins the primary is the Presidential nominee, the other is veep. From here on out we’re gonna tag team and go after everyone else.”

A man with a $10 billion dollar business empire doesn’t like hard work?

Honestly, I would like to see a Cruz / Trump ticket. Although I believe it would be a Trump / Cruz ticket.

Trump could use an advisor like Cruz. Cruz is also a man that could get things done.

Reagan and Ford came **this** close to being “co-presidents” in 1980. Remember?

There’s a reason everyone from Dubya to Boehner to the State of Texas to the Fortune 1000 wanted Cruz as a lawyer...

I believe Trump is in this race to win it.

You however are backing Walker, so you’re trying to cast doubt.

Makes sense. However I would also sure want to know what that meeting is about. :D

Huh? Do you think that his real estate and other businesses appeared as if by magic? You and I have been in business, right? It doesn’t happen like that. Sure, he had a head start from Fred and what he taught & left him, but he increased it quite a bit. I’ve never met a lazy CEO or C-Level executive, have you?

Agree. I want him in the White House in January 2017. If it’s president or VP, I want him in the administration.

Seriously if Trump and Cruz did this it would be a game changer. They could say that the country comes before their ambition to hold the top spot. They would both stand so far out and it would be so different that it would instantly take all other Pubbies out and let them focus on Hillary 24x7 until the election.

I’m a Cruz bundler, but it’s doubtful that they’ll tell one such as me what went on in that meeting until it’s pretty much common knowledge. I’m not that level of bundler! LOL Tell you what, though. I’ll donate another $50 to the FReepathon if anyone can reliably report back as to the gist of the meeting.

With Trump and Cruz I wonder if there is anything like the cabal of easterners that pushed Bush on Reagan. I don’t think such to be the case but the ‘average’ person never knows.

Hi 2DV,

I don’t have any knowledge about the meeting (YET). But my best guess is that :

1. Cruz happens to be in NYC for a few days (I saw him on cable news today); and,
2. Cruz is a bridge builder (contrary to popular opinion); and,
3. Cruz believes it will be worthwhile to build that bridge with Trump, for whatever happens in the future; and,
4. Cruz is ever in search of relationships with donors; and,
5. Trump may be asked to be a donor later if he gets out later (hence, the need for the relationship); and,
High net worth individuals like Trump move in circles of people with high net worths; and,
6. Trump is not taking any outside money; and,
7. Cruz may be cultivating a relationship as an entry door to Trump’s friends; and,
8. Trump has proven to be a person that can obtain earned media; and,
9. It is better to have Trump as a friendly opponent and not a cunning foe.

But, it is just my speculation. My pay grade is less than yours, my FRiend.

Your assumptions are ridiculous, as you will find out.
