GOP is not slamming Donald Trump's views fast enough: Latino advocates
The New York Daily News ^ | July 4, 2015 | Celeste Katz

Posted on 07/04/2015 8:01:45 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Motormouth Donald Trump isn’t doing the Republican Party any favors — and his fellow GOP candidates are adding to the damage by being slow to condemn him, Latino advocates said Friday.

“Trump’s comments are causing irreparable harm to the brand. It’s going to be very hard to come back from it,” said Felix Sanchez, chairman of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts.

The billionaire candidate sent the debate over border control into overdrive — and cost himself business deals — by saying Mexico exports “rapists” and drug dealers to the U.S.

He upped the ante Friday after Kate Steinle, 32, was shot to death on a San Francisco pier by a man who had been deported five times and has seven felony convictions.

“This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately,” said Trump. “This is an absolutely disgraceful situation and I am the only one that can fix it. ”

Hispanics Across America Chairman Fernando Mateo said a failure to slam Trump may end up backfiring on the GOP.

“Anyone that has not denounced Trump’s position is weak and does not deserve Hispanic support come election time,” Mateo said, calling Trump a “frustrated” attention-seeker.

Trump, for his part, basked in his success in early surveys.

Trump came in with an average of 13.6% support in opinion polls, which leads all GOP candidates.

“Wow, Huffington Post just stated that I am number 1 in the polls of Republican candidates,” the real estate mogul tweeted earlier Friday. “Thank you, but the work has just begun!”

Trump was touting his first-place finish in an average of 105 opinion polls tracked by the news outlet: He came in with an average of 13.6% support to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s 13.3%.

While Trump has gained traction, Latino groups and some of his fellow candidates who are mindful of GOP efforts to appeal to Latino voters have told him to back off.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio — the son of Cuban immigrants — on Thursday called Trump’s comments “not just offensive and inaccurate, but also divisive.”

Marco Rubio came out against Trump’s comments, saying the next President needs to bring Americans together, ‘not someone who continues to divide.’

But another senator of Latino heritage, Ted Cruz of Texas, stuck up for Trump. He’s accused NBC Universal — which has broken ties with Trump — of folding to political correctness.

Others have yet to comment on Trump’s remarks, although Bush, whose wife was born in Mexico, has called them “wrong,” and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has said Trump’s comments don’t reflect the GOP.

Former Gov. George Pataki on Friday launched an online “Stand Up to Trump” petition.

Critics have called Trump out for his “racist” assertions about Latinos and have urged businesses to drop their dealings with him — a move that would put them in the company of Univision, Macy’s, and Serta.

They were joined Friday by NASCAR, which said it will not hold its season-ending awards ceremony at the Trump National Doral Miami.

Mateo said the party as a whole needs to speak up.

“We are the real men in this Republican Party. As a longtime Republican myself, I’m ashamed that the chairman of the party has not come out to condemn Trump's actions,” he said.

An RNC spokesman pointed to earlier remarks by Chairman Reince Priebus, who said of Trump's tirades, “Those particular comments — not helpful.”

Off the topic a bit. Can anyone give me a reliable source concerning republican suppression of black voters in the South. getting tired of dealing with this propaganda with my liberal brother. Thanks.

The Republicans are pushing for voter I.D., the Democrats claim that blacks are so inept and stupid that they can't figure out how to get a FREE state I.D. card.

I have lived in the South for most of my life. Ask him how voters are being suppressed?

Most liberals are not capable of backing up statements they get from the news. They are not independent thinkers and only convey talking points from the Marxist left.

Ask him to compare the AA culture in the North to that in the South.

I will bet the black family in Charlotte is 10x better off than the black family in Detroit.

Dayum, I just realized that if (I know, big if) Trump actually wins this race he will have left every hispanic race-baiting communist organization holding nothing but a bag of sh!t.

That would be one good outcome. Total loss of credibility and power for these communist re-conquistas.

And THIS one is a Republican.

Thanks for you response. I went to ‘’ask.com’’(what a waste!) all they had was stuff from “The Nation’’, “Mother Jones’’ etc. so right away I knew it was suspect. My understanding is that Republicans want voter ID to counter Democrat voter fraud and ensure that people voting are who they said they are. I do shut him up by telling him that the Ku Klux Klan(a Democrat creation) was created to intimidate blacks from voting because at the end of The Civil War(thanks again Democrats) blacks typically voted Republican. This shuts him up until the next news cycle and then he goes on about ‘’F***king Republican racists’’. *Sigh* You can pick friends but you can’t pick family. Thanks again.

You want a reliable source for your brother? Just open a history book. The worst black voter suppression in the south was under Democrats when they suppressed poor black voters by instituting a poll tax that had to be paid before being able to vote.
Democrats, also held most governorships and state houses from after the civil war through the 1970’s, the period of the worst post slavery black oppression in the south. History they prefer to forget.
Republicans also ended the Democrat filibuster against passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Democrats insist that the black vote is suppressed by Republicans because they want ID presented to vote. Just as ID is required to get a social security card, drivers lcense, get a marriage licence (a fundamental Constitutional right, by the way) and countless other necessities. Democrats even require ID to attend party caucuses and their National Convention. Wonder why that is?

Many more rocks should be thrown on his path. But he is a non sequitur, a non-event in the end & he certainly is Not president material.
I’d say be careful who is chosen as President, because the next 4 yrs after Obi will be VERY critical for U.S. in the first instance & then the world.

...he capitalizes, as others do.. one can say, he is currently a ‘pimp’...

One can say he is a politician, just like all the others running for office. One big difference is that he says things about subjects like China, illegals, and the President that many average people and other Presidential candidates think, but don’t have the courage to say. Thats why he is at the top of the polls.

Thanks. So much of this history I’d forgotten and a lot of it I never knew(that was in my other life as a liberal). We have much to thank the Dems for, slavery, The Confederacy, The Civil War The Ku Klux Klan, I could go on. Yup, the Democrat Party. Screwing up America since.... well... since the get go.

Saying is not Doing or being able to do after one is in office :) - and what exactly is he promising to do? Details? How? Is that feasible? Maybe those things need to be very much highlighted.

I take your point though, he is doing the politician stuff, at this point - Promise a lot.. can you deliver though?

Trump is a good, actually, a Great “salesman”; that’s his business background too. Still time to learn from how others are ‘positioning’ for now & adjust..

So we have a bunch of people coming in to our country, in violation of our laws. Too many of these people are rapists, murderers, gangbangers and drug dealers. All of them are illegal.

They live off our system. They send their sick, unvaccinated kids to our schools. They demand American symbols and customs be taken down in favor of their own.

They demand that politicians do what they say, even though they’re in the country illegally. The politicians and press respond by giving these people everything they want.

Then they condemn everyone who dare criticize any of the above - going against our laws of free speech and free expression.

At the end of the day, they get their way. The political and media elite give these people every single thing they want or demand.

And what Trump said was offensive??????????????????????

They don’t want to provide an ID so that the establishment can get away with vote fraud.

If you cannot buy a beer without ID, how are they getting all that beer?

The right to vote is NOT in the Constitution. The right to Keep and Bear Arms IS.

Which one requires an ID?
