You have to speak Mexican
__________________________________________________
Mexican is a nationality; not a language. A “Mexican” is a person from Mexico and the language they speak is Spanish, NOT Mexican.

Except when it isn’t. Mexican Spanish is quite different from Spain Spanish. It’s always good for a laugh when Mexicans (especially of the New Mexico species) explain to you how they are Spanish, not Mexican.

Mexican language is as different from Spanish as the food in both countries is different.

No different then saying speak America when you are speaking English...

there's an old saying that the only thing that separates the English and the Americans is a common language

IF you know the Spanish they speak in Mexico vs the Spanish they speak in the the rest of the Hispanic world it a far wider gap.

I know someone that spoke fluent Castilian Spanish and they could not understand a word a Mexican said when they finally picked it up they said it sounded like someone from the speaking arcane English that was from the deep south.

I myself grew up in the area of southern California that was 98% Mexican...I can't speak it but I can sure as heck understand quite a bit.... when I went to Buenos Aires I couldn't understand a word of the Spanish spoken down there it sounded completely different it sounded like Italian

mexico has never been a country...just a zone...at least 30% of the area doesnt speak Spanish. mexico goes all out to preserve the myth of being a “Spanish” land but its a facade.

Until recent times most Latin Americans looked down on mexico.

mexico is not at all like like the cruise ship stops/post cars or private resorts.....not at all.

While that is true, if you spend alot of time in Mexico and a lot of time in spain, you will notice they are two totally different languages similar to the difference between english and american. If I hear someone speaking spanish, I can instantly tell whether they are from spain or mexico

The immigrants we get coming up from the jungles don't even speak Spanish very well.

So, in a sense they do speak Mexican. A mix of slang, Spanish and English learned from their communities.
