Rand Paul: College tuition should be a tax writeoff

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Sen. Rand Paul called Friday for college tuition to be a tax writeoff in his first direct pitch to young voters of his presidential campaign.

Paul used the power of the pocketbook, along with calls for electronic privacy and reforming the criminal justice system, to appeal to what he called the "Instagram generation," a constituency he sees as vital to his nascent presidential campaign. Paul blasted President Obama's plan for free community college, telling the crowd of a few hundred people, mostly students, that it won't work because someone has to pay for professors and facilities.

"Let's let college students deduct the entire cost of their educations over their working careers. Let's make college tuition entirely deductible," Paul said. Paul did not elaborate on how this would happen and his campaign did not return a request for comment....

Being employed and going to work should be a tax write off too. Tax the freeloaders and XenoInvaders.

Nope. Get the government out of student loans completely. There is always snare.

Just ask any priest in a Catholic church if he can speak against BO. They won’t because they worry about their tax exempt status.

Students may find some courses, degrees and schools are more equal to tax credit than others

If he were true to his principles, he would talk about pulling the government out of all college education, and how the result would, after the shakeout, be vastly lower tuition and higher quality, more focused education. Please don’t tell me he’s going to get the nomination...

Anything the government subsidizes gets bigger until it is too big to fail. School tuition does not reflect its true market value. Attaching it to tax credits further bloats the system and keeps a lot of worthless degrees from cluttering up the competition in the free market.
