"Even Candy Crowley loves him!" is not exactly rallying cry for the GOP base.
Rand Pauls new ad, released this weekend ahead of his announcement that he is running for president, is a bit unusual, to say the least. Instead of leading with America, apple pie, and corn fields, Rand Paul chose to lead with I am not making this up CNNs Candy Crowley!
The video, called A Different Kind of Republican Leader, features a lineup of liberal media personalities praising Rand Paul, including Crowley, Jon Stewart, and Chris Matthews as well as former RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who has spent the last year trashing nearly every conservative tenet of the Republican Party. In fairness, the video does also include Sean Hannity and Chris Wallace from Fox News, interspersed with clips of Pauls speech at CPAC.
Pauls decision to feature the media the conservative-hating the liberal media in an ad the week hes announcing that hes running for president is a little (actually, a lot) tone deaf. Has there been a single poll of Republican primary voters in which approved by the liberal media elites is a top priority? If there is, I havent seen it.
It leaves me wondering who Rand Paul is trying to impress with this ad. The media? The Republican establishment? Big money donors? Even Candy Crowley loves him! is not exactly rallying cry for the GOP base, is it?
I think he wants to line up for the ‘It’s my turn to get the nomination’ ride at Establishment RINO Loserville fair.
Don't start this already. There's plenty of time for the "better than crowd" to lecture us on why we should vote for the next RINO candidate.
The guy is a phony Pander Bear.
Paul knows that he can’t get anywhere near the nomination by going after traditional GOP primary voters. So his play is to, like his Dad tried to, pull in people from outside that traditional voter category.
So yes, he’s using the praise of Liberal media personages as a hook to make new/potential GOP primary voters take a look at him. It’s not a bad move from where he is in the GOP pack, but I also don’t think it ends up getting the nomination, maybe just outperforming his dad. By a little bit.
way better than Obama. We still have an election to get through. I suggest a phone book drive so Paul has something to elevate his position at the podium....he is diminutive when he is on stage with others. Cameras and image are everything.
Rand Paul may do well in the general, but his strategy for the primaries is bass ackwards, and there is slim to none chance of winning the GOP nomination.
Jeb Bush must be salivating at the prospect of Walker and Cruz dividing the more conservative voters. Looks like a repeat of 2012 coming up.
Bold colors! Screw Rand’s pale pastels!
Have they started to call him "Maverick" yet?
