If establishment pundits cant deny a Republicans intelligence, then they have to claim his intelligence is a problem.
The other day, NPRs Robert Siegel assembled his usual suspects from the New York Times, Washington Post and Brookings Institution to provide a balanced review of the week in politics, including the latest from Ted Cruz. These two short sentences provide a perfect example of the uphill climb Cruz and any Republican has ahead:
DAVID BROOKS of the NY Times: My problem with Cruz is that hes very, very smart hes going to Wall Street these days and impressing people with his intelligence but hes in the new era of performance politics. He actually hasnt done much governing in his life but hes done a lot of performing.
Lets completely skip over the attempt to connect Cruz with the evil Wall Street bankers and investors. Never mind, too, that while Obama was doing whatever community organizers do, Cruz was hard at work with the Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist and in the courtroom.
This pundit Brooks (who is supposed to be the New York Times house conservative) is the same guy who claimed Obama was the smartest presidential candidate ever, based on nothing but press releases and the crease in Obamas pants. For Brooks and the others this was a good thing even though the contention was completely unverifiable by his college transcripts, which remain legally sealed and never revealed. If we are talking about a Democrat, or Obama specifically, presumed intelligence is a good thing. If we are talking about a Republican, or Cruz specifically, demonstrated and proven intelligence is a problem, according to Brooks.
I guess theres nothing worse for MSM journalists than a smart Republican....

all these pathetic bumpkins...shooting round after ROUND after round of BLANKS!!
this is going to be a Historic Election of BIBLICAL Proportions
Mind made up. Don’t confuse me with the facts, eh;)
He is.
Which, of course, is the very opposite of Dorkbama, our resident quota baby.
Do these liberal nut jobs realize that everything they have said publicly over the past several years is on record? They contradict themselves and one another furiously without regard to anything.
I remember distinctly an image ofwe were sitting on his couches,
and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant, Brooks says,
and Im thinking, a) hes going to be president and b) hell be a very good president.
Just another attempt by the MSM to choose the GOP candidate by smearing the good ones.
My only hope is that Ted doesn’t have a crease in his pants if that is the way to determine what kind of a president one will be. These people are ridiculous - they have me in stitches at their attempts to bring Ted down. It feels to me like they are throwing nerf balls. I laugh at their hypocrisy and fear - and for some reason, I’m not irked like I was with Sarah. I don’t understand my feelings. I guess I’m not even irked any more about what they say and write about her either - she has been vindicated - and many of her critics have vanished from the national spotlight - while she is still in demand. God promises us beauty for ashes/
but . . but . . . common core defines conservatism as monarchist . . .
I’ve seen Cruz wearing what appear to be nicely tailored suits. Are his pants creased?
Leftists are going to love having Obama shoved up their noses every time they talk about ‘lack of executive experience’ this campaign season.
Gayest political analysis ever,,,
This is what irks me too. I'm sick of messiah politics. We were supposed to believe that Obama was so smart and that he was going to be some kind of savior.
Now we're supposed to belief the same about someone else, this time on the right?
No, sorry. Cruz may be the smartest guy on the planet that's not a selling point that works any more. I want to hear what the candidate has done, don't keep telling me how smart someone is. Smart is relative ... I know a lot of very smart people who haven't done much.
That's exactly what it felt like when Reagan ramped it up in '79 and '80. A very good way of describing it.
Who on this board has claimed he’s a messiah?
I laugh at their hypocrisy and fear - and for some reason, Im not irked like I was with Sarah.
New York Dave has to earn his keep just like Lord Haw Haw and Tokyo Rose. Why would the New York Times pay him to demean its liberal pantheon?
