Cruz Makes Inroads in the Most Important Primary of All
American Thinker ^ | March 24, 2015 | C. Edmund Wright

You can talk about the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire and South Carolina all you want – and those all are important – yet none of them is the most important primary on the Republican side.

No, the most critical Republican primary, at least for non-establishment candidates, is the Rush Limbaugh-Drudge Report-Breitbart-Mark Levin-Sean Hannity-Glenn Beck internet message board primary. For a conservative base candidate to win the nomination, he or she must carry most of the above precincts.

Now, this is not to say that all or any of the above will endorse a candidate by name during the primary season. They probably will not. But they will all talk about, report on, interview, and discuss what and whom they like. And the some 30-40 million people who make up those combined audiences and readerships will be impacted and educated by these venues. They go to these shows and these websites specifically for opinion and news, after all.

Thus, it is critical to win this primary, because those are the voters who turn out for non-establishment candidates in primaries. They just are.....

Yeah, that is weird, isn’t it? I used to do that to Salena and others, too. LOL

Well, I s’pose.

I don’t make my decision based on what these guys say. I do listen to their opinions...but honestly, I was appreciating Scott Walker well before Rush began talking him up.

And no amount of adulation heaped by Sean Hannity will change my opinion of anyone.

I love Ted Cruz and his political positions. I just think we need a governor or some other executive experience in the Oval Office.

To me, that is what made Mitt Romney, Herman Cain appealing last time (Jon Huntsman was too far gone).

Now, I like what I see in Scott Walker, Mike Pence, Bobby Jindal, etc. Nikki Haley, too—she could be a great VP candidate. (Christie, like Huntsman, is too left wing for me.)

Even though the talking heads in conservative circle don’t mention those folks too much, I still like ‘em. :)

Which state was Abraham Lincoln governor of? What executive experience did he have?

The Office of Governor is not the only place that one can acquire executive experience. You need to have a good read of Senator Cruz’ curriculum vitae. You might have your eyes opened.

I listened some to Rush yesterday. Yep, Cruz certainly was a hit with him. Probably with the others, too although I didn’t listen to them.

What I did listen to carefully was Cruz’ speech in its entirety. Context, purpose, distinction, patriotism and unabashed conservatism. I really detected no misspoken words, stuttering, ers, ahs or poorly chosen words, either.

Imagnine. A strong keyword for a strong purpose, tying together the threads of his theme to announce his actual candidacy without gimmick or demurring like some we know.

By my reckoning about 40 minutes of nonstop convincing truth - all without a teleprompter.

Imagine Barack Hussein Obama trying that. He couldn’t do it on his best day, even with a teleprompter hidden up his a$$.

Lincoln wasn't a governor. He had limited executive experience.

He also suspended constitutional rights for some American citizens and ignored the Supreme Court when was told he had exceeded his authority.

Do I think we as a nation are better off because of his presidency?

On the whole, yes. I also truly think slavery was, institutionally speaking, a dying model for economic growth. Whether we had experienced a bloody civil war or not, it seems to me the ambitions of Wilberforce were taking hold in this nation. America would have learned to let go of her wicked behavior.

Lincoln's presidency was rife with inner conflict, backbiting and those who hated him--in his OWN cabinet. People today would call his choices "RINOs", I think.

Nevertheless, I think he was providentially gifted to lead us through these days.

If you truly think Ted Cruz is another Lincoln, then I won't try to persuade you otherwise.

I am just giving my opinion of what we need in national leadership. A first term senator, brilliant lawyer with top flight positions is appealing. But in my mind, it isn't enough.

Would you have preferred one of his three competitors or his predecessor take us through that civil war?

So you think the problems we face today will be addressed mostly by an administrator or one who has the ability to administrate in a legal quagmire? Will you argue that our biggest problem today is not the run away judiciary and the life support system for attorneys?

Who better to articulate the reigning in of the litigation nightmare we face every moment of our lives than one who has articulated as much before the SCOTUS as the Solicitor General of Texas?

I say bring on the one who is unwavering for our God given rights under the Constitution. How about we get that straight first and count on the man with the wisdom of that focus to hire the right people to act and advise administratively with the Constitution as the overriding guide?

Granted, Walker is accomplishing some very good things in his state but on key social issues, he does not have an unwavering commitment to limiting government as in his on, off and on again for ethanol subsidies. His on, off and on again stance on the right to life.

Cruz’s focus is on the Constitution, not political expediency.

“I also truly think slavery was, institutionally speaking, a dying model for economic growth. “

That’s like saying, “Lamentedly, the promises of communism just didn’t pan out”, waxing nostalgic and ignoring the tens of millions slaughtered in its name.

Slavery wasn’t a model for economic growth. It was evil.

I love Ted Cruz and his political positions. I just think we need a governor or some other executive experience in the Oval Office.

(Sigh.)

Most former governor presidents have been disasters. Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, George w. Bush, FDR. And you want a CEO? How about Donald Trump?

Reagan wasn’t a great president because he was a governor. He was a great president because he understood what America was all about and new how to sell it.

The fact is, America was built on principles and an idea, and those now are considered by the “mainstream” to be extremist crackpot stuff.

Just today, we read about a public school in Lexington, MA — LEXINGTON ! — where an American pride-themed prom is cancelled because it’s offensive.

Ted Cruz, apart from being the smartest candidate, is the only one who wants to and who can sell the vision of American liberty.

That is the single most important quality for the presidency. As it happens, he has an amazing resume, and also is a man of real integrity.

What the hell good is a former governor? Jeb Bush is a former governor. Are you ready to support him over Ted Cruz? Seriously?

Did you watch Ted Cruz do his one hour appearance on Hannity? He was flawless, exactly on point, and never made a single misstep.

I agree. I like Scott Walker but he arose nationally in POTUS polls overnight due to comments by Rush on the radio. Otherwise he wouldn’t stand out more than others at this point.

Like or dislike Lincoln, he was effective in moving the country in the direction of his ideas. Same deal with Obama, unfortunately. Neither had executive experience. Reagan was a governor but he wasn’t just a guy who could manage things. He was also a visionary and a big ideas guy, and that’s what made him a great president.
