Video of 3-year-old Julia Trant questioning, in a tremulous-sounding little-girl voice, Senator Ted Cruz's assertion that "the world is on fire" caught fire itself over the weekend. But the headlines were all wrong, her mother tells PEOPLE.
"The world is on fire?" asked Julia.
"The world is on fire, yes," the Republican from Texas told the preschooler. "Your world is on fire." Might be the stuff of nightmares to some little ones – especially coming from someone so official – but "Julia was actually quite happy" at Cruz's political appearance Sunday before New Hampshire's Strafford County GOP, Michelle Trant tells PEOPLE.
"There was nothing scary that happened. I'm just so upset the way this has gone down."(continued)

This is just the beginning for conservative contenders.
They will not be tolerated in the national press.
Conservatives can presume they will be covered negatively, as losing buffoons, or, Not. At. All.
But here we see even People magazine is rebutting the falsehood, so the journ-0-lists may have jumped the shark on this one.
Ms Trent, I believe your child could do better as President now than the Golfer in Chief. Keep her out if public schools, ma’am.

To be honest, my thinking is that kids and puppies do not belong in these venues in the first place. These poor candidates have a tough enough time as it is and so much rides on the performance, the message and the impression they have to make to drag kids along at risk of creating a distraction.
This is a perfect example of the pain in the neck distraction.
