In the US we have no such political consensus. Both parties have abandoned the American worker in favor of their corporate paymasters. We bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year and have been doing so since 1990. In addition, we have guest worker programs that admit 640,000 a year. These foreign workers take American jobs and depress wages during a time when we have the lowest labor participation rates since 1978.
We had one executive amnesty for the Dreamers in 2012 that legalized, to date. 580,000 and gave them work permits and SSNs. We now have another executive amnesty that will legalize more than 5 million and virtually stop any deportations of the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. And no doubt there will be a surge of more illegals hoping to take advantage of the new amnesty. They will have plenty of phony documents to get them legalization.
The GOP's response has been mixed to put the best face on it. 20 Reps joined the Dems in not condemning Obama's actions. The amnesty will not be reversed. It will destroy this country.
We will have a third party that will come about as American workers find a way to express their unhappiness with mass immigration. They resent the colonization by the Third World. Europe is ahead of the US when it comes to the impact of immigration on their culture and values. They are starting to fight back in the streets and at the ballot box. The political and corporate elites have real reason to fear the people.
I have traveled to 3 dozen countries as an observer on vacations. There is ONE simple solution to problems in USA. In reality this solution will not happen here. That is unfortunate. However if adopted, the prosperity created will reach the moon.
The solution is simple. Eliminate ALL welfare for able bodied people over 18 and under 66. No food stamps, no unemployment, no rent subsidies, no free telephones, no free contraceptives, etc etc etc. The huge amounts of money saved can be used to payoff debt and build world class infra structure. Seniors can get subsidized housing and healthcare. Working age people pay for their own healthcare.
There is one country doing exactly that. There is so many excess jobs, they import foreign workers. 40% of work force is foreign on 2 year work visa’s. The infra structure makes ours look like a 3rd world country. It is a multicultural population of Chinese, Indians and Arabs. Not many jails are needed because crime is non-existent. Foreign criminals are promptly deported never allowed to return. Citizen criminals are handed harsh punishment so there is incentive to stay out of trouble. No one is starving in spite of no food stamp program. Everyone finds jobs because otherwise they will starve. College education to citizens is subsidized. Laws favor businesses. Hi-Tech industry of every kind is flourishing.
Admittedly it is a small country with total population of 5 million. But I came away hugely impressed after observing life in Singapore. Every 6th Singapore citizen is a millionaire.
