Not a perfect strategy but if youre grasping for last-minute ways to deter Obama from dropping the A-bomb, this may be your best shot. Impeachments not happening. If it did happen, Obama would welcome it as a post-landslide deus ex machina that turns the country against the GOP. Defundings probably not happening either, I hate to tell you. McConnell and Boehner will have no choice now but to insert language defunding executive amnesty in the new continuing resolution next month, but Obama will veto that CR. And I just dont believe B&M have the stomach for a protracted shutdown so soon after taking over Congress. Frankly, I figure thats half the reason Os suddenly eager to do amnesty this month instead of waiting until New Years. He wants Boehner and McConnell to choke on the idea of a new shutdown, knowing that theyd like nothing more than to pass some popular bipartisan bills instead to prove they can govern. Thats the state of Hopenchange in 2014 tossing unconstitutional, highly divisive policy grenades in hopes of triggering a shutdown or even impeachment. Just because it might help Democrats politically.
So heres an idea. Boehner and McConnell call a press conference flanked by Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Paul Ryan. If any Republican governors eyeing 2016 want to attend too, theyre invited Christie, Walker, Jindal, Jeb Bush, whoever. At the presser, B&M make a short statement: The GOP intends to challenge Obamas amnesty in court as an unconstitutional infringement on separation of powers. If, however, they lose that suit, theyll encourage any Republican successor to O to use the amnesty precedent in other areas of policy, starting with tax reform. Specifically, theyll advise the president to issue an executive order barring the IRS from collecting more than 10 percent of adjusted gross income from American taxpayers, a de facto flat tax. Like Obamas amnesty, that order will be temporary; a Democratic successor could rescind it with one stroke. Like Obamas amnesty, that order will be aimed at a highly contentious issue on which Congress is currently deadlocked. If the opposition party doesnt like the order, they can simply join the majority party in Congress in passing a compromise bill that supersedes it, just as Obama always says about the GOP and immigration. The point, obviously, is that the practice of dubious executive power grabs at Congresss expense can work for both parties. And will. Smarter liberals digested that point months ago, which is why theyre leery of Os amnesty. Dumber liberals will need it explained to them, verrrrry slooooowly. Once it is, if theyre still gung ho about the president appointing himself national lawgiver, well, okay. I guess thats America now. At least they wont act surprised when President Cruz starts doing this stuff.
As I say, though, not a perfect solution. The obvious problem: How do you argue on the one hand that Obamas doing something grossly unconstitutional while arguing on the other that youre prepared to do the same thing as soon as you have the chance? Thats what the lawsuits for. If, as everyone expects, a court tosses the GOPs complaint against O, then they can say that while they disagree with the courts ruling, it is what it is and itd be foolish for them not to use the same precedent to make America better. Having Boehner and McConnell deliver this message instead of the 2016ers themselves also creates a bit of a fig leaf in case one is needed on the campaign trail. If Rubio or Cruz et al. are asked whether theyll really issue an order like the tax one I mentioned, they can say they havent made up their minds, that that was B&Ms plan, but that obviously Democrats are in no position anymore to object to bold unilateral moves by a powerful executive. Clearly, they can say, theyd prefer that the president not have this power at all. But Barack Obama, con law professor turned president, decided that the legislature couldnt be trusted with legislative power, and a court agreed. Oh well.
Now that Obamas aides are floating specifics about his order to reporters, with hints that itll come sooner rather than later, its probably too late to stop it. Hed lose too much face with the amnesty shills if he bowed to GOP threats at the eleventh hour. But lets make this threat anyway, if only so that liberals know whats in store for them down the road when theyre busy celebrating Obamas authoritarianism next Friday.
Note that obama is purging the warrior class from the military.
The G0P isn’t going to do anything other than asisst the laweless pResident anyway they can.
If the republicans refuse to stop Obama on this amnesty BS, what would they do if he would commit a capital crime (i.e. murder)? Would they refuse to hold him responsible for that too? These so-called conservatives who worry more about the next election than doing the right thing for the country make me sick!!!
By "force", I do not mean individual acts of rebellion. I mean that officers who hold the President's commission must act on their own initiative to compel obedience to the Constitution that they are sworn to preserve, protect, and defend.
Thank you.
Non-enforcement of the penalty for the individual mandate could be considered as prosecutorial discretion, just as not enforcing immigration laws. Without the individual mandate; 0-care would fall apart as plans provide little value and become less affordable over time.
“If he can wipe immigration laws off the books with his signature he can cancel the next election with his signature”
Not really.
Just take a poll of American voters and ask the question: “Would you support the President of the United States suspending elections and taking away your ability to elect your leaders?”.
His attempting such a thing would be overwhelmingly condemned by almost every voter across the American political landscape, probably to the tune of at least 98% of the electorate. He would be impeached forthwith and convicted by even a Democrat-majority Senate.
That life would last three to five days. The secret service, the Army or a concerned Patriot with access would take care of the problem.
This is blithering drivel. Nothing but playing on the margins.
REPEAL OBAMACARE, SEAL THE BORDERS AND STOP AMNESTY!
That’s what WE TOLD YOU in 2014.
No I think they would do that ;) I don’t think they would abuse executive powers like Obola does.
Notice how email scandals took down Admirals, CIA directors, Carrier commanders, head of Armed forces for Africa and Submarine captains. Nobody even asked how and why they combed through emails and private conversations to cause this upheaval. I know one guy got demoted for saying women were not a good idea on carriers, one for saying “WHAT ARE WE DOING PUTTING FEMALES ON SUBS”. One was in command during the Benghazi debacle. The big fish for having an affair. Like the politicians in DC and the Pentagon that “tow the line” are squeaky clean. In short, play the political game and survive. Think for yourself and defend what is best for the military, and be gutted like a fish.
Why suspend the election, when he can manipulate it? Much easier, the Kremlin did it very well indeed. He really has no desire to remain President, 0 is just a revolutionary operative.
