The Minneapolis Star Tribune investigates independent political spending over the last few election cycles. The results are stark, but won’t surprise anyone who has been paying attention:
A Star Tribune analysis of campaign finance records found that just three dozen individuals or entities have contributed more than $27 million to political action and independent expenditure committees over the past three election cycles. The analysis shows those donations heavily favored Democrats. Unless that trend is reversed, Republicans could find themselves at a disadvantage heading into the 2014 elections….
No kidding.
One union — the powerful Education Minnesota teachers union — poured $4.8 million into election efforts, nearly all of it benefiting Democrats. Alida Messinger, a longtime DFL contributor and former wife of Gov. Mark Dayton, donated at least $1.6 million to Democratic political action committees. …
Since 2007, Democrats and their supporters consistently raised and distributed more money than their opponents. Even with the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which allowed businesses to give money directly to political action committees, business interests and Republicans have not kept up. …
In the last six years, union contributions dominated donations to state political action committees. State and national unions spent $17 million in Minnesota between 2007 and 2012. Businesses, newly empowered to spend after the Citizens United decision, directly donated about $3 million.
The Strib identifies a handful of major contributors that account for more than half of all independent expenditures in Minnesota. It says that the big money “heavily favor[s]” the Democrats, but never reports the exact totals. Still, from the numbers the paper does report, the conclusion is obvious. The situation is getting worse, too, as Democratic money dominated the 2012 election even more than prior cycles.
Minnesota might be an extreme case, but there is no doubt that the Democrats’ alliance of unions and rich people will put Republicans, the party of the middle class, at a financial disadvantage for the foreseeable future.
Use to believe that money did not matter but after the last few election cycles, I’ve come to believe that yes, the electorate is “stupid”! It matters not what their platform is, it matters not whether they are truthful, it only matters if they lie their ass off about what they will do for the folks!
I really think that it has become a matter of principle instead of money buys the votes but what do I know! I don’t have enough money to purchase those votes...
All the money in the world will not persuade someone whose life is ruined by ObamaCare to vote Democrat.

I have been somewhat successful at political fundraising a few times (Polk County GOP and Fred Thompson campaign) and I’d be willing to show others my methods.
Well, I am not doubting your expertise but am questioning the ability of folks to understand that they are being taken over by the left and actually vote against that. They tend to lie much better than you do...
With enough money and the disaster of Obamacare, NSA, Benghazi and the rest, Hillary could be stopped and the senate re-taken.
I rally think we are getting past the point where money buys influence in an presidential election cycle. The county is split so evenly that only a few voters in a few big states decide the outcome. The rest is pretty useless.
The trick is getting those few voters.
A lot of this money comes from Soros, who made it collapsing places like Malaysia.

Wow, enough money! Don’t you think that if the American people were only half awake that they might just throw these folks out of office! Do you really think that might happen?
We now have half of the country that thinks that they should receive benefits just for being born for goodness sakes! How are you going to overcome that? Just how do you place these folks into the work force in the future?
We have reached a precipitous situation, not Democrat vs Republican but takers vs the producers. It has become much more volatile that most think.
Sorry, but don’t really see any way out of this mess...

The most important source of funding is the MSM.
Letterman, the Today Show, CBS Evening News, 60 Minutes, the Associated Press, PBS, on and on.
The value of their “contribution” to the Democrat Party is in the billions of dollars, and probably more than $10 billion across a 4 year election cycle.
95% of the work has already been done by the MSM before the unions and wealthy Democrats even show up.
You can’t teach dumb asses about Government, Freedoms, or anything else you know... Their ideas are built into their psyche - from grade school on... It’s one of those leftist things - taught at a very early age and enhanced in college (well almost all leftist universities)...
Sorry, not a messaging problem, but a stupid problem! We generally have about half of the population either stupid or uninformed so take you pick, how are you going to help these folks understand that they are destroying their lives voting for Democrats!

They have to hit rock bottom, obviously. Once they hit the point of actually being uncomfortable in their poverty, things have to change for them.
