Think Murdoch will take his advice, knowing what the reaction would be among Fox Newss many, many gun-rights-supporting viewers?
Dont mind Murphy. Hes a freshman from a very blue state where feelings are still understandably raw after Newtown, so apparently hes decided that no anti-gun grandstanding opportunity is too cheap for him to use to try to raise his profile back home. Coming soon, presumably: Murphy calls on NASCAR to drop the N, R, and As from its name.
The National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race slated for this weekend is inappropriate in the immediate wake of the Newtown massacre, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, wrote to the races broadcaster on Thursday.
The race not only brings national attention to an organization that has been the face of one side of this heated debate, it also features the live shooting of guns at the end of the race, Murphy wrote to Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which owns the Fox network where the race will be broadcast
In his letter to Murdoch, Murphy cited the News Corp. boss past support for tighter gun control laws in the United States, including a message Murdoch posted on Twitter shortly after the December Newtown shooting

KMA Murphy. We’re getting tired of you socialists.
A chance for the NRA and NASCAR to show what they are made of and I’m not holding my breath on either point. I smell a cave in and will be the first to acknowledge my wrong headedness if one or both prove worthy of recognition.
Hey, as long as you’re erasing the second amendment why not the first?
There was a time when good people would hear such nonsense & PUBLICLY tell the fool WHERE they could stick their silly idea.
Too bad money is now more valuable than honor & freedom.
People like Murphy keep on pushing us.It’s almost time.
Would Sen Murphy demand ESPN(Bristol Conn) discontinue broadcasting events featuring Islamic athletes who have an anti-homosexual stance that will offend gays??
Furthermore, would Sen Murphy demand that ESPN not air events sponsored by Disney whose corporation presents programming very offense to many Christians??
In that case Senator I’ll have a split screen watching The Masters Tournament AND the frickin NRA sponsored NASCAR event!
Never in my life time has a politician and his party taken such a gut-wrenching tragedy as what happened in Newtown and used it to attack the nation’s most honorable citizens (the traditional American gun owners) and the nation’s most honorable independent organization (the NRA). The immorality and lack of integrity of these politicians is beneath contempt.
Let's bear in mind, CT is the home of a couple of gun manufacturers. This shows you the the thought process of Murphy and his ilk. He's willing to force these companies out of CT , costing hundreds of jobs in a state that can't afford to lose any jobs. Ideology trumps the people he represents.
And that’s exactly what will happen. Once the citizens are disarmed, they then have control over our tongues as well. A lot of people that can speak out about things now will be punished severely in a totalitarian state!
Anxiety Management: learning how to move anxiety to the time we can do something about it, removing the current stress which is higher until we can form a way to eliminate or minimize the problem.....(this time the corrupt administration of Obama)
Maybe he’s worried a gun will grow legs, walk into his house and shoot him all by its lil old self.
When that moron who stabbed all those people at that college was walking around campus carrying a stuffed monkey or dolls, talking to them, did ANYONE say “you know, we should tell someone something is wrong with this guy”!. Or tell parents with a mentally ill child “if your child has a mental condition DO NOT put a gun in their reach”. OR maybe if your child is so deep into violent video games TAKE THEM AWAY and get that child help.
No parent wants to think there is something wrong with their child. The parents of the two Columbine murderers weren’t even aware that their sons were building bombs and collecting guns. Oh, that’s right, they didn’t want to invade their childrens privacy, and the NO SNITCH policy that most children seem to cling to has to stop. If a friend is saying “I’m going to kill so and so TELL SOMEBODY!!
It’s not the guns. Guns don’t kill, PEOPLE kill.
Maybe they should include some gay sponsors. For “balance” of course.
Murdoch is hardly what you would call a solid conservative. He's been close to the Clintons, having supported HRC in her Senate races and getting in with the Clinton Global Initiative (whatever that is). FOX News presents more people and comments from the left than it generally did a few years ago.
Bottom line: Murdoch keeps a sharp eye on Obama's FCC, which he knows can hurt him badly if he gets too far out of line with the Administration.
he's not squared away on gun rights ~ and Huguenots played no part in the development of political thought in Australia anyway so that part of his mind is just a blank.
Cable isn’t regulated by the FCC.
As a nation we've come to the great divide, again. If you deny that there is not a geographical component to this divide you are sadly mistaken.
So it begins.
Not content with destroying the 2nd Amendment this CT Senator wishes to destroy the 1st Amendment.
You sir are a traitor to America....
Murphy is “inappropriate” to be a US senator.
“Its almost time.”
I had just assumed we would not make it to the 2016 “elections”
Murphy should be impeached for using his elected office to interfere with legitimate free enterprise in the U.S. Any elected official who tries to damage legitimate free enterprise in our nation should be impeached and sent home - also negate any retirement package for such an official.
Bob Beckel huffed and puffed on The Five yesterday when the race was announced. I bet he got his hand slapped.
I’m going to call all my buds and have a party for the Race, go NRA and NASCAR.
Promos on the local FOX station in Dallas aren’t mentioning the oh-so offensive name.
I'm not an expert on the subject, but that doesn't sound right as a broad statement. I think some of that depends on whether you're talking about cable carriers (the companies whose services the ordinary viewer would contract for, like Time Warner, for instance) or the cable channels and networks (like FoxNews, CNN, ESPN, CNBC, etc., etc.). I know that the cable carriers are largely regulated by local governments, but I also know that the FCC has to approve of mergers and acquisitions amongst them, or at least that was true during the Clinton years. The guess here is that the networks, like FoxNews are licensed by the FCC as well.
Regardless, Murdoch's NewsCorp operates a whole slew of over-the-air Fox Network television broadcast stations, with outlets in just about every major market in the country. Those definitely do require FCC licensing, renewable periodically. So, he has a lot of skin in the game, no matter what the legal status of cable regulation.
Fox Television Threatens to Go Off the Air
I’m watching the race. I don’t recall NRA being mentioned yet.
and channel 4 is not an affiliate, its owned and operated by FOX
The Fox announcers are not mentioning the sponsor of the race. They are calling it “The NASCAR Sprint Cup at Texas” race. No mention of the NRA at all.
That’s right. No mention of NRA at all as far as I could tell. I wonder how high up the Fox hierarchy that decision was made. I also wonder if any contractual agreements were violated.
I’m watching Ch 7 in south Florida, an independent affiliate, not a Fox O&O.
Thanks for the ping!
The local FOX station was never in any way ‘conservative’
