CT senator to Rupert Murdoch: You should refuse to air the NASCAR race that the NRA’s sponsoring

Think Murdoch will take his “advice,” knowing what the reaction would be among Fox News’s many, many gun-rights-supporting viewers?

Don’t mind Murphy. He’s a freshman from a very blue state where feelings are still understandably raw after Newtown, so apparently he’s decided that no anti-gun grandstanding opportunity is too cheap for him to use to try to raise his profile back home. Coming soon, presumably: Murphy calls on NASCAR to drop the N, R, and A’s from its name.

The National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race slated for this weekend is “inappropriate in the immediate wake of the Newtown massacre,” Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, wrote to the race’s broadcaster on Thursday.

“The race not only brings national attention to an organization that has been the face of one side of this heated debate, it also features the live shooting of guns at the end of the race,” Murphy wrote to Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which owns the Fox network where the race will be broadcast…

In his letter to Murdoch, Murphy cited the News Corp. boss’ past support for tighter gun control laws in the United States, including a message Murdoch posted on Twitter shortly after the December Newtown shooting…

A chance for the NRA and NASCAR to show what they are made of and I’m not holding my breath on either point. I smell a cave in and will be the first to acknowledge my wrong headedness if one or both prove worthy of recognition.

Hey, as long as you’re erasing the second amendment why not the first?

There was a time when good people would hear such nonsense & PUBLICLY tell the fool WHERE they could stick their silly idea.

Too bad money is now more valuable than honor & freedom.

Would Sen Murphy demand ESPN(Bristol Conn) discontinue broadcasting events featuring Islamic athletes who have an anti-homosexual stance that will offend gays??

Furthermore, would Sen Murphy demand that ESPN not air events sponsored by Disney whose corporation presents programming very offense to many Christians??

Perhaps the good Senator should seek professional help to deal with the apparent fear and anxiety that the mere mention of an inanimate object seems to evoke in him. How can he effectively serve his constituency if he swoons when the word "gun" is spoken? /Sarc

Never in my life time has a politician and his party taken such a gut-wrenching tragedy as what happened in Newtown and used it to attack the nation’s most honorable citizens (the traditional American gun owners) and the nation’s most honorable independent organization (the NRA). The immorality and lack of integrity of these politicians is beneath contempt.

Let's bear in mind, CT is the home of a couple of gun manufacturers. This shows you the the thought process of Murphy and his ilk. He's willing to force these companies out of CT , costing hundreds of jobs in a state that can't afford to lose any jobs. Ideology trumps the people he represents.

And that’s exactly what will happen. Once the citizens are disarmed, they then have control over our tongues as well. A lot of people that can speak out about things now will be punished severely in a totalitarian state!

Anxiety Management: learning how to move anxiety to the time we can do something about it, removing the current stress which is higher until we can form a way to eliminate or minimize the problem.....(this time the corrupt administration of Obama)

Maybe he’s worried a gun will grow legs, walk into his house and shoot him all by its lil old self.

When that moron who stabbed all those people at that college was walking around campus carrying a stuffed monkey or dolls, talking to them, did ANYONE say “you know, we should tell someone something is wrong with this guy”!. Or tell parents with a mentally ill child “if your child has a mental condition DO NOT put a gun in their reach”. OR maybe if your child is so deep into violent video games TAKE THEM AWAY and get that child help.

No parent wants to think there is something wrong with their child. The parents of the two Columbine murderers weren’t even aware that their sons were building bombs and collecting guns. Oh, that’s right, they didn’t want to invade their childrens privacy, and the NO SNITCH policy that most children seem to cling to has to stop. If a friend is saying “I’m going to kill so and so TELL SOMEBODY!!

It’s not the guns. Guns don’t kill, PEOPLE kill.

Think Murdoch will take his “advice,” knowing what the reaction would be among Fox News’s many, many gun-rights-supporting viewers.

Murdoch is hardly what you would call a solid conservative. He's been close to the Clintons, having supported HRC in her Senate races and getting in with the Clinton Global Initiative (whatever that is). FOX News presents more people and comments from the left than it generally did a few years ago.

Bottom line: Murdoch keeps a sharp eye on Obama's FCC, which he knows can hurt him badly if he gets too far out of line with the Administration.

murdoch is just another funny little foreign guy who imagines he's got American political life all figured out.

he's not squared away on gun rights ~ and Huguenots played no part in the development of political thought in Australia anyway so that part of his mind is just a blank.

As a nation we've come to the great divide, again. If you deny that there is not a geographical component to this divide you are sadly mistaken.
