CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Mitt Romney is mocking Newt Gingrich's long record in Washington and says conservative tea party voters eventually will reject the former House speaker who's Romney chief presidential rival.

Romney tells reporters in South Carolina that he thinks the state's tea party voters will turn on Gingrich because of his work for the mortgage company Freddie Mac and his consulting time in Washington....

Romney does not have the strong determined conservative personality to be successful as President. Gingrich has a personality that will hit hard and will not compromise with the communists Democrats. He also will take no crap from the courts that attempt to legislate from the bench and recommend that the legislative body correct the court or impeach. That kind of strength will move America back to a Constitutional conservative land. The rest of the candidates are just not strong enough to move much. Forget Ron Paul who is mentally ill.

Looks like Mittens' endorsement by our Govenor Hikki Halley (which was pure political payback, nothing more) isn't gonna cause a landslide for him. Last sentence from the article:
South Carolina holds its first-in-the-South primary Jan. 21. Gingrich leads Romney in South Carolina polls and has emphasized his tea party support.
'nuff said.

If we get through the SC primary and Mith has won only NH, I'd say he's in trouble.

She is not MY Governor. She is a flighty, silly, naive opportunist. She took the GOP establishment bait and will choke on it.

One term Nikki.

I wish that were true, but unfortunately the primaries until 1 April are divided by percentages on how they won. So Mitt could end up getting second or even third in every state and still be pretty strong. After 1 April, it is winner takes all, but those tend to be the blue states and Mitt could win most of those. This might be a horrible election after all.

I sent her this Tweet: @margarethoover You RINOs don’t get it. Nikki Haley’s endorsement doesn’t give Romney Tea Party credibility. It diminishes hers

Exactly right.

If the Tea party rejects Newt, they certainly would not back Romney.

Romney doesn’t even show up on my distant radar screen.

Mitt must have promised Nicki a really good cabinet post. It won’t help as Newt is running away with SC and Fla.

Sorry Upchuck.

I watched that Haley/Romney endorsement Presser and was totally outraged. Haley looked like a Romney groupie and did a disservice to the TEA party individuals who supported her.

GOP Governors and other elected officials should stay out of the Primaries. They prop up losers temporarily but are ultimately devisive and destructive.

Good riddance when she loses in 2014.

[ I’m not sure just how Nikki Haley was bought off, but it sure doesn’t sit well with true Conservatives to have her jump the shark and endorse Romney-the-RINO. ]

Haley is going one direction South Carolina will go another..
Haley has exposed the HORN on her nose.. mistake!!!

Romney, on the other hand, vehemently denied Ronald Reagan and aligned himself with Ted Kennedy and the left.

This needs to be repeated constantly. The entire Romney clan including his father and mother have been fighting the Reagan wing of the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan emerged on the national scene. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. Any claim this phoney makes about being a Reaganite or conservative is ludicrious.

I respect the fact that Next has decided to not go negative, but I am afraid that the general GOP electorate will not do enough of their own research about the candidates. Unfortunately alot of them will listen to the liberals at NRO, and the media.

Someone needs to have a commercial that details Mitt’s record. Otherwise, he will continue to attack Newt and pretend to be the most conservative option.

I am not a fan of Romney or in fact any candidate in the race. Gingrich is smart, intellectual idea guy, who will be good for cabinet position. If you really think, Obama will debate gingrich for more than 3 debates or the moderators(who will be from main stream media) allow gingrich to shine, you are insane. Matter of fact, people who don’t follow politics like us, will see the contrast between Obama and Gingrich and will vote for the better looking candidate. Also, do you honestly think social conservatives will vote for Gingrich(after 3 marriages)?

6 months back, i was crying in this board for Paul Ryan. Some of them said, we need him in the congress. Finally I was hoping for Rick perry and he screwed up his image with all those early debates.

what to do? We have only Romney left and I think, probably he can beat obama because of his organizational setup which will be better than other republican candidates

You listen to too much Liberal TV. By next Nov my dog Buddy could win again’st Barry Soetoro. The social conservatives and evangelicals are forming up behind Newt right now. Thats why he’s the front runner in the GOP race. He is the only candidate who if nominated will ridicule, criticize and taunt Obama on a daily basis all the way up until election day. Every time Obama gives a speech Newt will show up 4 hours later and rebutt it. After a day or two the press will only be showing what Newt said. Its beautiful.

We need to start thinking about a primary challenger to Haley in the next election.

Best case, we find a good, conservative, Tea party candidate, and get rid of her.

Worst case, we drag her (kicking and screaming) slightly back to the Right.
