Newt's Rise: It's the Persuasion, Stupid
American Thinker ^ | December 12, 2011 | C. Edmund Wright

Posted on 12/12/2011 12:11:57 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

While the entire elite insider structure of both parties in a full tizzy over the out-of -the crypt rise of Newt Gingrich -- and the national pundit class totally vexed by it -- allow me to unlock the deep dark mystery that has them all scratching their pointy little heads.

It's the persuasion, stupid.

Now before you slough that off as too simple and too shallow of an analysis, keep in mind how rare true persuasion is these days in politics. And by true persuasion, I mean the ability to persuade voters to consider changing their minds to agree with the politician who is speaking.

Generally, the only persuasion we see today is the phony attempt to make voters think the politician agrees with them. This normally happens after some shallow political hack has persuaded some soulless office seeker that this is the way to win the precious moderates and independent voters.

Too many folks running for office are merely thermometers, hiring a consultant to take the electorates pulse and then attempting to reflect it. True leaders are like thermostats. They set the temperature and bring the electorate to them.

Now keep in mind that anyone who even tries to do this is almost always reflexively attacked by the keepers and beneficiaries of the status quo. This was true of Gingrich back in the 90's when as a pugnacious minority leader he had the temerity to go hard after Bill and Hillary Clinton. His leadership and creativity led to the Contract with America revolution in the 94 midterms. That election was conservative America's shining moment between Reagan's win in 1980 and the 2010 midterms....

Much to agree with here.

I just find it unacceptable that half the country is on the dole, pays no income tax, yet can vote more money from those who aren't on the dole and do pay the tax.

I think Newt can sell it the best of our candidates.

Just a few short weeks ago, conservatives and even the LSM were consumed with heated debate about various proposals for MASSIVE TAX REFORM (which is key to entitlement reform and cuts in government spending).

This debate was one that I had all but given up on ever hearing in my lifetime. Yet, there it was and the ideas for TRUE tax reform were being seriously discussed, with incredible mojo on all sides, as if, yes, there was every reason to think we were going to "go there" in some way, shape or form in the next administration.

Now. Nothing. Old Mo has left the building.

Does Gingrich have a tax plan? Yes, he does. Is it bold enough to get anyone even talking about it? Apparently not.

Not yet.

At some point, this is going to have to be the focus on Newt's campaign and his administration. As I've said from the beginning, any candidate/President who is not focused on MASSIVE TAX REFORM, not just on "flattening rates" or tinkering around the edges, is not serious about actual solutions, not only for our economy, but for preserving our freedom.

Every day we get closer and closer to that tipping point where more than 50% of the population is feeding at the government trough -- where takers outnumber producers. Once that happens, and it WILL happen without massive tax reform, it's GAME OVER.

My first choice for President was Sarah Palin. My second choice was Herman Cain. My third choice is Michelle Bachmann.

My choice for Vice President is Allen West or Marco Rubio.

All conservatives. All worthy of my vote. :)

Why would the elite insiders be bothered by the rise of an elite insider?

“I just find it unacceptable that half the country is on the dole, pays no income tax, yet can vote more money from those who aren’t on the dole and do pay the tax.”

I hope Newt is willing to put his mind to this moral argument, but I won’t hold my breath.

His tax plan is loaded with deductions and exemptions that preserve tax freeloading. If EVERYBODY paid federal income tax, it would only need to be 10%. Instead, with the $12K per person deduction, child tax credits, and EITC all preserved in Newt’s 15% Max (and no minimum) plan, there will be even more tax freeloaders than today.

Fixing Newt’s plan would be easy — just add the proviso that none of the deductions or credits can reduce your tax below a minimum 10% of AGI. That one change would eliminate tax freeloading and ensure everyone paid between 10% and 15% overall effective rate. The personal income tax would raise enough additional revenue to eliminate the corporate tax entirely and all the tax overhead and lobbying by corporations. America would be the best tax environment in the world.

Wipe the regulatory slate clean and the combination would have new businesses flocking to relocate in the USA.

Why? Because you say so?? Nick, feel free to leave if FR no longer represents what YOU think it should.

I support Gingrich not because all the others ceded, as you believe, but because he's a strong conservative with persuasive ideas who can win and in that effort, teach America why Conservative principles are right and just. So...stick it.

Ummm....John, it wasn't Gingrich that got Obama elected. Remember, GW Bush's House of Reps didn't have Gingrich at the helm.

Nice try, but no cigar.

"You might get a Reagan once in a generation, if you’re lucky. We got another one (Sarah Palin) and allowed the press, Democrats, popular culture and nutroots to destroy her without much of a fight. We deserve a Romney or Gingrich for that, if nothing else."

I agree - except that I will not be a part of imposing the punishment of a romney or gingrich on my family or my country.

It seems there are those of us who will not pursue discernment and allow the lies to conceal the truth...
and there are those of us who as a result of our own laziness allow others to force us to choose between evils
- therefore choosing evil.

I may be a lone voice, but I will hold to the right as long as the Lord allows me to have that power.

I pray daily for His blessing on my family and the U.S.A. acknowledging His sovereignty in asking His Will be done (with my fervent request that His Will might include Sarah being vaulted to the presidency).

If more of us stood firm against the lies and manipulation we might get what we need as opposed to what they impose upon us.
If you've given up, you're helping the other side.

To remain ignorant of history is to remain forever a child who'll be led by whoever sounds most pleasing or convincing.

Thomas Jefferson paraphrasing Cicero.

We are become a nation of ignorant children. There is no other explanation for a presidential ballot with the names Obama and Gingrich at the top.

"Sometimes we have to make difficult decisions."

True. We are tempted, we are confused, we are lazy, we are poorly informed ... we are misguided. However, if we base our decisions on the truth, excluding evil influence as much as possible (to include an artificial choice among nothing but evil), then even in our brokenness we are more likely to make the best decision.

"Sometimes, purity of principle isn't enough. ... Consider Prohibition."

If the prohibitionists were really Christians they would have considered that wine contained alcohol and that God Incarnate - Jesus - not only drank, but provided wine to a wedding feast. In my opinion, this fact alone should have caused a prayerful Christian to choose against attempting to impose their personal drinking beliefs on others. I consider prohibition just another example of satan twisting the truth and leading us to destruction.

My comment’s premise was that Newt did not create a conservative America when he was Speaker of the House. His inability to implement the failed Contract with America set up the American landscape for the emergence of RINO Bush and then Obama. Instead of going to Washington to serve us, he went there instead to serve himself. His collusion with Pelosi on forcing taxpayers to pay for BS environmental damages from the global warming myth, his amnesty to foreigners who break American laws by illegally coming here, his Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac taint, and his cheating on his wives all show his political pandering, lusty philandering, and conservative backstabbing. He’s not Tea Party. He’s not conservative. He’s RINO.

Cutting spending alone is not going to make America a better place to do business or work or reverse the class warfare and freeloading Marxist redistribution of wealth we have today.

Newt also GETS IT about Islam and the threat it poses to our country, whereas we currently have an Islamist sitting in our white house.
