DeVore waits to cash in on `murder-suicide pact'
SacBee: Capitol Alert ^ | 5/14/10 | Rob Hotakainen

Running last in most polls, Republican Assemblyman Chuck DeVore says he knows what would allow him to win California's GOP Senate primary: a murder-suicide pact.

His thinking goes like this: In the final days of the campaign, former businesswoman Carly Fiorina uses her advertising to beat up on frontrunner former Rep. Tom Campbell - that would be the murder - and then Fiorina pays the price with voters for going negative - that would be the suicide.

It's a time for "going negative" in this country ~ REAL NEGATIVE.

Maybe in a plusher age you could worry about that, but people want to know what is the worst that can be said of a candidate ~ so they can kick him or her in the teeth at the polls.

Carly sure hasn’t been helping herself. Who ever is creating ads for her is not doing a very good job.

It'd be nice if the media carried our water for us as they do the democrats, but if anyone needs to start going negative its the GOP.

Hell, McCain refused to even call Obama a liberal.

Chuck is chicken sh** to take on Boxer especially when they hold the same views on the war.

AS far as going negative in the primaries is concerned, as long as the issue is in doubt and the ad is demonstrable, we should welcome the addn’l info.

No kidding. Please enlighten me on Boxer position on the war, because all I’ve ever heard her say is she supports the manner in which Obama is prosecuting it.

The best way for Devore to capitialize, is to bow out of the Senate race gracefully.
Then he could be a shoe-in for a Congressional seat.

"The Fiorina camp has a very serious decision to make" on whether to run positive or negative ads, DeVore said. "In going negative, they have a very real danger of having a murder-suicide pact that allows me to gain from the two of them engaging each other. These are things that I see playing out."
That will happen if she really is in the race to win. If she is in the race specifically to split the conservative vote so Campbell can win, then the anti-Campbell ads either won't appear, or they'll botch the job and make voters sympathize with him.

The Statists win with either Campbell or Fiorina. The only way for the tea party to have a voice is for DeVore to win. I know many of Fiorina's backers, even were she herself not a Statist to begin with, do not want to see the TP succeed in any way in California. They are the same backers who stole the recall election away from the conservative wing by bringing in the better-known and at the time closet-Statist Schwarzenegger.

Don't fall for it again conservatives! Don't let the RINO and Statist wing of the GOP PC you again. Say "I am no longer Politically Cowered."

I’ve already voted DeVore.

Either way, I’ll vote for whomever wins the primary. I’m not one of those whiners who will sit if my guy doesn’t win. Those types helped put Obama in charge. . .

Well said, I like Devore too, his message and his service and I support him in his mission and message but I believe Carly will win the state and that that she offers us a better option than the “experienced politicians” we have in the race for this cycle. I want someone who has done something commercial, made payroll, shown they have metal and who is willing to be straight with the citizens. She has opinions that my at times grate on some of the lifetime core conservatives like me but I think she can take the heat when we go after her and that she will listen to her constituents. As a California CEO she had to deal with the nuts in Sacramento and DC so after dealing with Boxer lets welcome a proven effective leader with the wherewithal to make some money in her life who chose to stay in the state rather than move to Texas or Florida for tax reasons.

Well, if she wins the primary she's got my vote. I'm not giving up principles and voting for a RINO this early. ;-)

Agreed, but I clearly don’t see her as a RINO. She does have her position on the web for all to see and we will keep her feet to the fire for at least 6 years if elected. I am pro-any conservative who hasn’t held office and yes it is a theory that hurt some folks that have been in the trenches for a few years but it is time to clean house and not look back...except to President Reagan.

Okay, RINO may be a bit harsh. She's more of one than I want, but clearly not of the RINO caliber of someone like Arnie.

She does have her position on the web for all to see and we will keep her feet to the fire for at least 6 years if elected.

That position will change once the primaries are over. She's pandering to the Right for now. She'll head back to the center as soon as she has to.

I'm not saying that's a bad strategy for getting elected, but it's not the kind of thing I want to support.

As for keeping her feet to the fire - good luck with that.

it is time to clean house and not look back...except to President Reagan.

Agreed.
