CNN

Unknown if DOD or DOJ. Still developing. Could be for "baseline" or there could be some active tissue samples to work with.

More later.

There is a man who one sees very often on TV, I think he is Russian, who I have come to think is an expert on Bin Laden. He seems very wired and very smart. He has been studying Bin Laden for many years. He says Bin Laden is still alive, that in fact, among the group of a dozen or so experts who track him, it is believed that within the last few weeks Bin Laden hand wrote a condolance note to some sheik in the Middle East. He believes Bin Laden is alive, and very much in control of things. I wish it were not true.

You're right, at least according to reports I've seen. bin Laden's family willingly gave DNA samples weeks ago.

But as I type, I'm watching the Pentagon briefing and it seems to me, both briefers are denying knowledge that anyone in the Pentagon (DOD), has asked for DNA samples. (I bet this is a trick answer...they did not deny that other agencies of government have DNA samples.)

Remember the drone that fired the missle at that group of men the villagers said were just gathering scrap metal?

Why would I publicly ask the family, making it known to CNN, rather than go privately to the family? It was our government who asked. That's clear in the following.

The article is not linked, but it says:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States has formally approached the bin Laden family and asked them for DNA samples, officials said Wednesday. The United States wants to rule out definitively that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was not killed in a recent CIA missile strike in Zawar Kili in Afghanistan. The armed forces pathology lab is examining human remains from the strike. They are trying to determine the identities of people killed in the missile strike. One of the people killed in the strike has been described as tall, dressed in Arab white robes, and treated with deference by others, leading to speculation that it could have been bin Laden.

What can we learn from the decision to publicly ask instead of privately ask? Does it say anything about our suspicions?

If I DO THINK I'VE KILLED Osama, would I be more likely to ask publicly or privately?

If I think I've killed him, I'd definitely want it public. If I think I've not killed him, I'd definitely want it private. If I'm honestly uncertain, then there are propaganda purposes that could be served by either choice.

His name is Yossef Bodansky. He is/was(?) the Director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare. He wrote a book on bin Laden:
BIN LADEN THE MAN WHO DECLARED WAR ON AMERICA

Maybe the CIA asked for it?
