Revelation: Chapter 6, 6
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say,
A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny;
and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

I don't quite see the connection to Revelation.

If the super Rich Saudis, Saddam and OBL spent their money on feeding the poor in the middle east, this would never happen.
OBL has spent enough money on the Talibanners to feed all of Afghanistan for decades.
Why aren't the super rich Saudis buying wheat and flying it into Afghanistan with the Red Crescent insuring that it gets in the right hands?

How much does 100kg of wheat cost? Anybody?

Are they for sale only for marriage, or can I buy a few for adoption? I think a ten-pound bag of flour is about $2, so 26 bags would be $52.

Can anyone convert the cost of 100kg of wheat to Afghani hashish for the libertarians to comprehend the current market value of girls?

So how many did Kennedy, Condit and Clinton buy and are they to pay reparations when their own people sell them to others?

Hmm. I believe that an important point has been overlooked. We have willing sellers who face an inefficient market. And the buyers are in a like situation.
The solution? Why, an exchange, of course! I can see it now...the Kabul Mercantile Exchange, with contracts on 40,000 pounds of live afghans. That equates to, what, about 400? Anyway, village leaders could aggregate the offerings from individuals and offer contracts as hedgers - that way, they could have an assured price for their offerings. And buyers could deal in round lots instead of dealing with small, inefficient odd lots. Large users (Bill Clinton for example) would surely flock to the exchange, and distributers could facilitate retail purchasers. Adopters and others would have a much more convenient methodology, perhaps including something through Amazon or eBay.
We'd probably want different contracts for different grades/types, such as male, female, children, strong workers, and so forth.
Later, we could have options on futures...
No need to thank me. I'm just doing my part in bringing the afghans into the 21st century!

Poor translation to say "penny." This coin was about the size of a penny, it is true...but was made of gold/silver alloy and contained about a tenth of an ounce of pure gold or nearly that.
Yet of course you are right: this means that even a coin worth (today) some $29 or $30 or so...would only buy a simple meal, loaf of bread, etc. It describes conditions of serious famine and shortage, as in a besieged city.
Yet, the implication is, that oil and wine, products that were more luxuries and which ordinary people could only have on a few holidays per year, were not costing much more than ever... PS FDA, could you send me that wonderful artwork you posted on the Rev 13 thread of mine that they later pulled?

what the afghans don't know is that american women have money to spend and like being the boss. the boys could probably fetch a bigger sack of wheat than the girls.
