One Nation Indivisible
Declaration Foundation ^ | February 9, 2002 | Ward Connerly

In this community of crusaders for a colorblind government, much has been written and said about the need to deconstruct "race." Alan Keyes and Richard Ferrier join me now in calling for serious examination about racial classifications as an obstacle that keeps us as a nation from moving beyond race. The opportunity for this exciting discussion for a new century and a new millennium coincides with a proposal now being pursued in California which would end most racial check-off boxes in state and local government forms.

The Racial Privacy Initiative (RPI) is the first of its kind. It is a proposed constitutional amendment in the process of being qualified for the California November 2002 ballot. This represents a significant fork in our road towards the colorblind ideal.

The following is a reader's guide on each of RPI's provisions, with an explanation for why it was drafted the way it was: http://www.acrc1.org/Readers.htm

As one reads through the text, a question comes up again and again: What does it mean to be an American? For some of us, we are all Americans, and it's the only box that matters. For others, we must use race to get beyond race, so we should continue to track and profile people along imperfect and arbitrary categories ad infinitum.

California and America needs to re-commit to the ideals upon which our nation was founded. This initiative will help!

If you are a California resident please vote for ONE America, and not a balkanized, sovietized mess that will be the death of our children, if not us.

Good for Ward, and the DF. I, too, believe that so long as we keep making those distinctions amongst Americans, those detested hyphenated somethin' or other, we will never unite as Americans.

Exactly......

And along those lines the feministas have used that damnable hyphenating of last names to demean marriage!

Think we could start a new movement, Halt the Hyphen? :)

Though its been a long time since I've repeated this on FR, I stopped believing in "race" a long time ago. Originally we all descended from Adam and Eve, more recently from the three sons of Noah (except for the Albanians, who claim they were a later generation of Noah). I do accept the definition of "tribes" and/or "nations" in defining people... but, all that aside, race has been used as a very effective tool by the bolsheviks in dividing the American nation. I believe Dr. Keyes and Mr. Connerly think along these same lines - that one can be a member of the American nation and put aside his/her "race" in support of this nation. Jesse Jackson, the ADL, ACLU, SPLC, Sharpton, the Clintons, et al, have all used the issue of race as a means of blinding us. I read not too long ago that the 2000 census actually had more "races" than South Africa had under the apartheid system. I could care less which tribe a person is of as long as this person believes America to be his/her nation and is willing to support our Constitution.
