USO Canteen Freeper Style 12-24-01 Christmas Eve

Christmas at the Canteen

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Merry Christmas, Chief!  We love you
and we know you're watching.

We couldn't have done it without you! We almost forgot the Steamed Buttery Artichokes...I know you've been up for hours steaming them and clarifying the butter for dipping. They look marvelous!

How's your back/neck? Today, you are assigned to greeting duties. Simply sit in the dining room, greet our guests, (sneak a bite now and then), and make sure we don't run out of anything. Here's your santa hat...now, GO GREET! HO HO HO!

From Matthew I

18) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
19) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
20) But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21) And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

22) So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23) “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

24) Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
25) and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

Merry Christmas!

Such beautiful ladies, such beautiful hearts, and an adorable mascot to boot!

I'll line up for the brunch, then it's off to deliver cookies (baked just last night) to the neighbors, the Sheriff's substation, and the firehouse.

My kids are so spoiled, they INSISTED on red and green pancakes this morning. I think I set a bad precedent with the green eggs and ham thing. ;-)

When I return, ABC Family will be on all day, showing those great old Rankin-Bass Christmas specials (who could ever forget Heat Miser and Snow Miser--yes, I'm a child of the 70's). The French onion soup will be started, and a crock pot of spiced cider will scent the house. If anyone else has room after that yummy brunch, stop by!

Have a wonderful Christmas Eve morning. Can't wait 'til 10 a.m.! Barb

Good Morning everyone. I hope everyone is fine.
Hubby and I had some fun right now. We got to thinking about about the times he was away for Christmas and had MRE's to eat. Hubby found an old MRE in the garage. It contains peanut butter, fruit cocktail, Ham and eggs chopped, crackers and candy and a brown pouch.

I have to say......that doesn't look good to eat, but I guess if that's all you have to eat. I pray out troops will have a good meal to eat for Christams. I pray all of you have a wonderful Christmas too.

Thank you for the beautiful Christmas Card, Tonk. Today should be filled with Christmas greetings, more than usual. I tried to make the Canteen Christmasy and cozy inside today as well as outside. I don't think anyone ever looks at the main thread anymore to even know it's different. :^)

I thanked you on the other thread, but wanted to publicly thank you again in the Canteen. You are so great!!!!!

My husband called (EARLY--big time difference) this morning and we started feeling a little sorry for ourselves. But then I reminded him (and myself) that there are lots of people who got on a plane or went to work one sunny morning, and now their families have no hope of spending another Christmas with them. So we don't have it so bad!!

Sorry, I don't mean to be such a downer on this special day, but I wanted to let you know that I'm trying to keep a good perspective on this separation. There's definitely something missing this year, but we are so proud of him. Folks like you and everyone who visits the canteen in support of the troops, make the separation much easier to take, since we know it's not in vain. I'm so sorry if you ever got the feeling you weren't appreciated for your service. I was way too young, but I know nobody in my family was protesting against you, for what it's worth!

God Bless you and everyone at the Canteen! God Bless our troops, our President, and God Bless the United States of America! Barb

Why is Christmas just like a day at the office? You do all the work and some fat guy in a suit gets all the credit.

Hmmmmm, I can relate to that sometimes. :^) Merry Christmas, Wheel!

Thank you for giving us those beautiful words to remember throughout the day.

My favorite is Luke's version:

While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son.

She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.

The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
