[history]
In the battle of movies made from classic children's books, Harry Potter beats out Frodo Baggins hands down.
"The Lord of the Rings," the first of a three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved tales, is a massive disappointment. You have to fight to stay awake throughout its near three-hour length, and that is never a good sign.

This clown is trying to get his 15 minutes of fame by being "different" and disagreeing with all the other critics.
I'm sure there must be a story behind this guy.
To: JURB
Well, there had to be at least one.

I see he, the reviewer, cleverly ensured few readers of his review and thus fewer critics with his capricious typography. So little time and so much to read and comment on. This idiot isn't worth my time or effort.
The conspiracy of ignorance masquerades as common sense.
To: JURB
Uh, "The Lord of the Rings" is not a children's book, for starters. What a dunce.

Everyone I have talked to says it was a great movie. One person said it was "The best movie they have ever seen"

This is the same reviewer that posted low ratings (out of 4) reviews for many movies that end up winning BEST PICTURE or something like that.

"Everyone I have talked to says it was a great movie. One person said it was 'The best movie they have ever seen'" I'm going to see it tomorrow. As for the best movie ever seen, I will reserve judgement. It will have to go some to be better than Apollo 13 or October Sky...or virtually any George Pal SF flick...Or In Harm's Way or The Longest Day, for that matter.

What a maroon. His line about the script demonstrates his ignorance, as the "floridly bombastic" lines are all virtually word-for-word from the novels.
My own review: Everyone involved in this film, including the grips and the guy who brought them pizza, deserves an Oscar.
Yours in Truth,

Saw it last night. Worst movie I have seen in ten years. Almost as bad as "Pee Wee's Big Adventure."
It is long, boring, filled with very overused special effetcs, and horribly lit.
It's the kind of movie Hollywood types will love and auiences above the age of 15 will hate. Gays will love it, because it is so "cure" and "darling."
Bottom line; short run, few $.

Our local newspaper critic must know this one, he said he fell asleep too.
Both must have something against a movie that shows ultimate evil and ultimate good. Oh yea, and the lack of nudity or sex probably is responsible for a large part of their opinions.
They are wrong. I will go see it again. The only thing I was disappointed with was the fact that this movie could have gone for another hour or so...
I wish they could have made the first book into two movies so all of the story could have been put on screen instead of what they cut and changed for the movies sake!

I can hardly wait till Danial Newman produces HIS version.NOT!
I haven't seen it yet,but my niece who is a psyc major did and since she wasn't familiar with the story thought it went in spurts.Funny you'd a thought she'd a gotten into the good vs.evil thing more.
Ah well,I look forward to seeing it myself.

"Gays will love it, because it is so "cure"(cute?) and "darling." Wrong, gays will hate it because there is right and wrong and strong male relationships without sexual inuendo.
To: JURB
This guys is nuts.
I saw it twice in a row on opening day. 6 hours of LOTRs and i left the theatre wanting to see parts two and three right then!
Best movie of the year easily and definately one of the top 5-10 of all time.

Saw it 2 days ago. I'm going to go again this week. I love this story
To: MindBender26
hehe, it's already made about 131$ million total, worldwide. (
total take so far.) On top of that, it's running 96% positive on www.rottentomatoes.com (
here.) SO I think it's successful, pretty much. You may not like it, but I wouldn't go picking my friends by looking for those who didn't also -- you'll end up mighty lonely.
To: JURB
i agree completely with the reviewer. the movie STINKS!

Everyone involved in this film, including the grips and the guy who brought them pizza, deserves an Oscar. This is true.
