Virginians will have an opportunity to decide on the future direction of their state next Tuesday, when they vote to elect a new governor. The right choice couldn't possibly be clearer: Mark Earley, the Republican nominee, who has compiled a very distinguished record during nearly 15 years of service as a state senator and attorney general is the best man for the job. Mr. Earley has fought tenaciously in the political trenches together with leaders like Govs. George Allen and Jim Gilmore to reform welfare; to ensure that responsible parents are notified when their minor child seeks an abortion; to cut taxes and to abolish a discredited parole system that was putting dangerous predators back out on the street after serving only a fraction of their sentences.

Meanwhile, the Washington ComPost compiles a bogus poll that just happens--coincidentally, I'm sure--to match Mark Warner's bogus polls showing Warner up by 10 percentage points!! Time for George Dubyuh to get off some of that there political capital and use it for some good in NJ & VA!!

Hey Dubyuh, didn't you learn from yer Daddy that Bi-Partisanship is Fer LOSERS!!

"Mr. Warner is the Old Dominion's version of Bill Clinton!!"

Yep, and in more ways than many folks know...Mark Warner's fortune was made on the backs of taxpayers up and down the East Coast as he corrupted the bidding process for Cellular Phone Monopoly licenses and brought in his political buddies and Big-Money Donors as Payback for supporting Wilder's campaign twelve years ago. This whole group of Warner/Clintonoids is corrupt to the core and I fully expect if Warner does get elected, he will NOT complete his term due to the Exposed Corruption that will force him to RESIGN!!

Virginia FReepers, get the heck out there and make sure each and every one of your friends and relatives and work associates knows how important it is to KEEP MARK WARNER OUT OF THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION AT ALL COSTS!! They don't come any sleazier than the low-life, scumbag Mark Warner!!

My thoughts exactly. What good is winning the war if he ignores the homefront? That's exactly the equation that gave us Bill Clinton in 1992.

The President should know that. And no one should give us that "He's got a war to run," crap.

I am fully confident in his ability to lead us through this war. I'm glad he's where he is and I'm committed to supporting him in the war on terrorism.

But, if he has time to read to Muslim children and time to go to a baseball game, he's got time to show up for Earley, and even Schundler.

I busted my backside working for him, before and after Gore tried to steal the Florida vote. The RATS are already turning on him and his high approval rating will vanish. In 2004, the sheeple won't remember how they trusted him after 9/11.

And if he doesn't show up in Virginia, I won't be inclined to remind them.

If the President doesn't show up, I think he'll really come to regret not supporting Earley and Schundler. I just can't fathom that the majority of his advisors don't see what the Dems and media WILL do if VA, NJ and NYC all go Democrat.

I'm beginning to fear that we're about to find out.

"Many Republicans are going to be stunned at New Jersey and Virginia," Mr. McAuliffe said confidently, sounding as if he is already declaring victory. "This gives us huge momentum, huge excitement. It sets us up perfectly for our '02 races."

I'll be sad, but far from stunned. I called this one (Virginia) back in the summer, but had (and still have some) hopes that Earley can pull it off. I was much more optimistic last week.

God, I feel sick. The thought of seeing McAuliffe gloating on national TV on election night and for many days thereafter is a nightmare in and of itself. W has got to get down there and quick. I can settle for a split decision but if we lose both gubernatorial races it will be totally demoralizing for Republicans going into the 2002 race. W needs to step in and support those who support him.

Thanks for the flag. Mark Earley is a truly decent man. It's a real shame his campaign has been so overwhelmed by endless funds from a political chameleon. All that being said, I'm not giving up hope. I was thinking about whether or not President Bush should campaign for him or not. I almost think it's too late, and at this point would look blatantly political. Had Bush shown support a week or so ago, it would look like he was heeding his own advice to "go about business as normal"; and normally, he'd have been here.

The GOP isn't called the "stupid party" for nothing. It was Karl Rove who cost us the Senate by pushing that RINO Jeffords over the edge (I know, a good case can be made for 'good riddance'), and now, if we lose, we can again credit him. Contrary to what has been said about Mark Earley on this thread by a few, he's a good, experienced, and decent man and would make an excellent governor. He's even right on a few issues, to boot.

It wouldn't have taken much for Bush to help pull him over the line. The Dems on Capitol Hill have been partisan for weeks. I'll post the information about the statewide lit drop for Saturday. Who needs 'em; we'll win this thing on our own.

Exactly. And, unfortunately, what we've seen this year in Virginia is the same scenario that lost it for us in the 80s and early 90s (pre George Allen). That's changed somewhat in the last few weeks, but that may not be enough to put us over the top.

I just fired off a nasty email to the White House about this. If the leader of the party cannot campaign for one of his own, then why bother? This is a major boondoggle on the part of the White House. Guess they don't want to offend W's new found fans. Better to offend those who supported him before his rise in the polls. Sheesh...how demoralizing.

I busted my backside working for him, before and after Gore tried to steal the Florida vote.

Remember, McCain campaigned hard in Virginia, and the Democrats were all to willing to help him out. Our primary was back to back with South Carolina, and it was Bush's victory in Virginia that was the final nail in McCain's coffin. I'm off to read the following thread: President Bush Says Vote Mark Earley for Governor in Letter and see what it's all about.
