Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

Monaco police kidnapped Ted's wife, stole her U.S. Passport and used it to force Ted to sign the prepared false confession in French which Ted does not read, write or speak.
Monaco police showed photos of the Maher children BACK IN NEW YORK to Ted and Heidi, and PLAYED SECRETLY RECORDED TAPES OF THE CHILDREN'S VOICES in order to FORCE TED TO SIGN A FALSE CONFESSION.
Perhaps this did not register with you and Colin Powell the first several dozen times it was stated.
Allowances can no longer be made for your believing the lies of the Monaco prosecutor Daniel Serdet that Ted was "on drugs"--you've been repeatedly told that the Monaco hospital tested Ted NEGATIF NEGATIF NEGATIF for drugs and alcohol. Has it begun to register that your constituent has been railroaded with the complicity of the Monaco police, prosecutor and judiciary?

It is apparent by your reply to Rep. Kelly that your office mistakenly accepts the official line of Monaco regarding Ted Maher's role in the suspicious death of Edmond Safra December 3, 1999.
Monaco police seized Ted Maher and held him in four-point restraint, catheterized, deprived of sleep and beaten for three days. Monaco police also kidnapped Ted Maher's wife, stole her U.S. Passport, and used it to extort Ted's signature on their prepared false confession, written in French which Ted does not read, write or speak.
Monaco police produced secretly taken photographs of the couple's young children BACK IN NEW YORK, and played secretly recorded tapes of the children's voices to implicitly threaten these children should Ted refuse to sign the false confession.
Monaco prosecutor Daniel Serdet in a December 20, 1999 Time.com article by Thomas Sancton smeared Ted with habitual drug use as part of the absurd fabrication of the official Monaco scapegoating. There is a problem with the prosecutor's story, though--the Monaco hospital, Princess Grace, tested Ted for drugs and alcohol with the results shown to the world on the November 21, 2000 DatelineNBC program "Who Killed the Billionaire?"--and the results shown in dramatic animated graphics were:

Serdet states Ted was on drugs. Hospital report states drugs and alcohol - NEGATIVE. This is not going to be allowed at the trial. DNA on both Vivian and Edmond Safra show a Male's DNA but eliminates Ted's DNA. This is not going to be allowed at the trial. Vivian's neck was crushed but this is not going to be allowed at the trial. Sonia states in last phone conversation with Vivian, Vivian stated she felt faint. She died shortly after that. Someone was crushing her neck and Vivian just states that she feels faint. This is not allowed at the trial. Nor is Sonia going to be called to the trial. Telephone calls are not going to be used for the trial. THE LAWYERS ARE OKAY WITH ALL THIS AND ARE NOT PURSUING ANYTHING TO DEFEND TED. Monaco is interested in the fire only and that Ted was responsible for it. Yet in the fire report, it states that it was started way after Ted was sent to the hospital.
Monaco must come out of this smelling like roses. They think that the world believes Monaco is safe and a wonderful fairyland that people want to visit. We will keep spreading the truths about the horrendous acts Monaco has committed on Ted and his wife when she went to visit him.
The letter from the State Department states that "the Department of State and the Consulate General in Marseille have worked closely with Mr. Maher, his family, and the Monegasque authorities to ensure that his rights and interests are duly protected under international law and in accordance with the customary practices in such cases." The Department of State have NOT worked with the family or Ted. He is lucky to even have a meeting with the Consulate every other month. No one from the Department of the State has even spoken to his family here in the states.
