My dad was one of the soldiers in the Philippines waiting to take part in the invasion of Japan. Thank goodness, the Japanese surrendered before that could happen.

The bomb killed many, but SAVED many, many more - on both sides.

God Bless him. In any discussion I've ever had about the bombings I've never had anyone actually ever say the bombing were a war crime or unnecessary. I've said and still say that if the Japanese had had such a weapon they wouldn't have hesitated a moment to use it. The odd thing is in books and documentaries I've seen over the years it's the Japanese who were civilians at the time who condemn America for using such a weapon but always the Japanese veterans understand without reservation our using such a weapon and have said had they had such a weapon they wouldn't have thought twice about using it.
