East Hartford- The state will hold the fifth in its series of Heroes4Hire career fairs on Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the ballroom at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

The career fair is an opportunity for Connecticut veterans, who have served in the armed services, the Connecticut National Guard and the Reserves and are looking for work, to connect with prospective employers.

More than 50 employers are expected to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Connecticut Veterans' Administration and CBS Radio.

Attendees can have a member of the Labor Department's team of professional resume writers review their resume, as well as obtain information about veterans' benefits, vocational rehabilitation and education and career options.

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Vets Express bus will be available for anyone needing help filing a claim with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

For more information, including directions, registration forms for employers interested in taking part in the fair, and a list of participating companies, visit www.ctjobfairs.com or call 203-859-3412 or 860-263-6516.

I live 10 miles away, and was discharged this past May. I am not currently on the job market, but I have a few friends that are about to get out. I will be very sure to let them know. Thank you very much.

Thanks, but I’ll skip the recruiting for Mary Kay and Primerica. I’m surprised Amway and Herbalife haven’t signed on yet. I need a job, not a position low on a pyramid.

Yes, many of these things get filled up with MLMs, scams, pyramids and party plans, but maybe you should call before assuming who’ll be there. Having run dozens of job fairs, I would say that 5-15% are usually the kind of organizations you mentioned, another 10% will be the military and trade schools, and the rest regular employers and staffing firms.
