Hi Sam
>>It's a shame that the contribution of the Poles in WWII is pretty much overlooked in the West.
We get to write the new history... : )

The Vilification and Vindication of Colonel Kuklinski
After risking all to combat the Communist tyranny, he seems to have been subjected to a gauntlet of stupid, petty and vindictive sniping.
In addition to the obvious KGB active measures used to terminate his two sons with prejudice.
It's a battle which never ends, and he was among the bravest soldiers.

Thank you, Michael121 for bringing Col Urban to our attention. Real heroes don't need to remind everyone that they're heroes.
Allow me to put a sharp point on it:
Lt. Col. Urban is an inspiration--even just reading about his exploits.
Whereas, the Fop du Jour, John Fonda Kerry, leapt like Rudolph Fonding Nureyev to leave (desert, orphan, maroon, flee, eschew, disavow) his "band of brothers" after thuh-ree (not seven) trivial "owies" requiring zero zip nada hospitalization, leaving less scarring than his BoTox injections;
Whereas, Fonda-Kerry got his Silver Star on his own recommendation for shooting a corpse--
The amazing-beyond-words image of Urban bolting from hospital to hitchhike and limp up the road to rejoin his men, to lift them up and get them victory--
That is a Medal of Honor soldier--
And he returned to the world to a rather modest position of public service--
What a man and an inspiration--
At just the right time when the crass, cheap and treacherous kerrified left demeans all that America means.
Bravo for a stirring thread celebrating stirring deed.

An interesting book.
Apparently the Mig-25 was to counter the B-70.
Add Belenko to the short list of those who dared and thereby mattered.

Evening Phil Dragoo.
Lt. Col. Urban is an inspiration--even just reading about his exploits.
Amazing how the exploits of men like Col Urban and Audie Murphy can make your eyes tear up and give you a feeling of pride, while a "person" like Kerry fills you with anger when you see him use his "service" as a prop for personal gain.

Lieutenant Viktor Ivanovich Belenko was a pilot with the 513th Fighter Regiment of the Soviet Air Defense Command based in Sakharovka, Siberia. He achieved wordwide fame on September 6th, 1976 when he defected to the west, flying his MiG 25 "Foxbat" to Hakodate, Japan. This was the first time the west was able to get a close look at the aircraft, and it revealed many secrets and surprises.
Belenko was granted asylum by then US President Gerald Ford, and a trust fund was set up for him, granting him a very comfortable living in later years. The US interrogated and questioned him for 5 months after his defection.
Belenko is now an aerospace consultant and lecturer.

There were 433 Medal Of Honor awarded for WWII. 294 Army, 57 Navy, 81 Marine, and 1 Coast Guard. Only 190 survived to wear there medals.
The majority went on to live quietly and a lot of them went on to help at VA hospitals. They do not brag, even Audie Murphy had a hard time depicting himself in "To Hell and Back" not because of old memories but because of humility. Even the MOH wearers from Viet Nam and Korea all have the same quiet demeanor, not what one would expect out of brave men of action. But they all say the same thing. The medal they wear is for all the ones who did not come back. They just wear the medal, it is not theirs.
Gen. George S. Patton said to a man whom he placed the Medal of honor upon, "I would give my immortal soul for that medal." Though Patton was a great tactician, he was a little full of himself.

Bravo for a stirring thread celebrating stirring deed.It was indeed a stirring thread. Without intent and on it's own timing it sheds light on just how treacherous and dark j f'ing kerry is in his ambitions.

You're on target, as usual, Phil. With Kerry, I don't know whether to laugh, cry or throw something at the TV.
