Those are good photos posted by salamander at #19 & #21 to show the variance of body types among coyotes. I live just outside of Tulsa OK and hunt deer about 80 miles west, near I-35 in north-central OK. I’ve seen both body types in both areas. The interesting thing is how they are generally considered nocturnal but I’ve seen them in full daylight in both areas. As we move towards fall, the pack-level activity increases and I’m able to locate 4 packs in my rural area by their evening howl-fests. I’ve even had one come into the yard in full daylight to chow down on the fallen persimmons that are also a favorite of the local deer.

A pack stalked my dad in broad daylight.

The only time in his life he didn’t have a gun on him, he’d gone up on the ridge to fill the deers’ apple bin.

He didn’t dare turn his back on them so he had to walk backwards down 100 yards of stony ridge, never taking his eyes off of them.

They kept coming right up until the time he got to his truck and pulled out his Browning.

As soon as they saw the rifle, they took off.

Too savvy for their own good.
