[JBS] The Real Newt Gringrich
Google Video ^ | 4th Sept | John. F. McManus

Posted on 09/05/2009 8:31:24 AM PDT by freepersunite

President of the John Birch Society, John. F. McManus gives a damning presentation in 1996 on the real Newt Gingrich, who at the time was Speaker of Congress. Here's an excerpt:

'In addition to Gingrich's disdain for the constitution he has managed to acquire a reputation as a brash, unfeeling and arrogant know it all. His negative rating among the American peoeple is higher than Bill Clinton's. Democratic candidates from coast to coast are looking forward to tying their Republican opponents to the controversy surrounding the Speaker, controversy that has been created by the speaker himself. A very astute observer of American politcs recently summarized the difficult situation facing good congressmen facing re-election in 1996, he said this: "Gingrich has achieved something almost unthinkable. He has kept Republican freshman from being conservative and yet set them up for possible defeat in November for being too conservative". That takes brilliance.'

And he hasn’t gotten any better. Newt was on the wrong side of two of the most important issues of our time: the prescription drugs boondogle and the bailout.

the presentation is over an hour long!

Interesting video though, if you have the time to listen.

Plus open borders and support for the Department of Education.

You might consider taking a page out of William F Buckley’s playbook and keep the Birchers off your site.

There is getting to be entirely too much fringe making this place their second home.

I used to LOVE Newt. He seems to be a Jekyll & Hyde character recently. I no longer trust him. I am about to write him off totally. Don't give me ONE more reason Newt.

John Birch Society:
“To bring about less government, more responsibility, and — with God’s help — a better world by providing leadership, education, and organized volunteer action in accordance with moral and Constitutional principles.”

What’s wrong with that?

Newt is a head case. He did taht commercial with Pelosi. He sends me crap asking for money for his group. Yeah right - I wish i could get the money I gave to Juan McCain who was picked to help Obama win.

I loathe stinking RINOs.

How about responding to the points? I know some Birchers. Some of what they have to say is right, and some of it is questionable.

BTW, Buckley’s playbook had one play - be a “gracious loser” while stabbing real conservatives in the back.

You got that right. Add ‘global warming’.

More than you ever wanted to know about Newt:

The problem with Newt is he says these things when he’s with the general media, and then when he’s with Hannity he says something else. I in turn become suspicious of Hannity for not questioning Newt on these matters, and why Hannity has Newt on so much in general bothers me. I’m not saying I dislike Newt, but I don’t trust him fully.

Good point. The list is getting endless. I think he was a big booster of No Child Left Behind as well.

Indded...and smoking dope. But very properly, of course, outside the 12 mile territorial limit on his yacht.
