Man who lives in remote Kentucky among strict Amish and Mennonites reveals what the isolated communities are REALLY like - from living without electricity and cellphones to hidden 'abuse' behind closed doors

A man who lives in remote Kentucky among strict Amish and Mennonites has revealed what their isolated communities are really like - from living without electricity, internet, and cellphones to driving around in horse and buggies.

For his whole life, Steven Haste has resided in a community in Casey County, Kentucky, that is made up prominently of Amish and Mennonite people - two religious groups who believe in living a traditionalist lifestyle.

And while he doesn't consider himself Amish or Mennonite and doesn't follow their firm rules, he recently opened up about why he prefers to spend his time with them rather than the outside world.

While chatting with popular YouTuber Peter Santenello for a video, Steven explained that living among the Amish and Mennonites is extremely 'humbling.'

He explained that while he isn't a fan of all of their regulations, he loves their simple way of life and strong sense of community.

'I love it. These people are my best friends. I've been around them my whole life,' he explained. 'I was raised right here. I'm so used to it, I'm with them everyday.

'They're my friends. I don't feel comfortable without them to be honest with you. It's such a humbling place to live.'

According to Steven, Amish and Mennonite people are extremely 'helpful' and will come together to assist anyone in the neighborhood.

He recalled one time that a tornado destroyed the roof of his barn, and everyone he knew came to help repair it.

'They help you, they'll do anything for you,' he continued. 'We all gather and help each other. That's how it works around here.'

“They won’t take any kind of government assistance, any kind of money like that.”

Right there Democraps would declare them enemies of the state

We are all Sinners.
Even those of the Horse&Buggy set.

It’s because we are human beings.
We can only try the best we can to be good.

And of course, you are ever eager, ready and willing to post them for everyone to see. I don’t know how many hours a day you spend scouring the internet for articles like this but based on the number of threads I see posted, it must consume a great deal of your time.

Your posting history is replete with threads making Christians and Christianity look bad to others. Except for Catholics who you NEVER post about.

Good job. I’m sure the devil appreciates your diligence in besmirching the name of Christ.

All religions do.
We have Amish in the county where I live. They make outbuildings and furniture. We even have an Amish market (grocery store). Amish is like Islam. It’s more cultural than religious. I have rarely seen Amish, Mennonite and German Baptist work or live together in this area. There are Mennonites in the county east of us and German Baptists to the west. We frequent a German Baptist honor veggie stand. The children are in charge of it.

I have become desensitized by the frequent accusations of “abuse” these days. Too many in current society view any form of discipline as abuse.

Haste sells draft horse and mule teams. Probably a high-quality way of life.

Same here. Additionally the accusation is thrown around so predictably for anyone someone else wants to destroy or take revenge on, that it's become almost meaningless.

Plus, accusations are simply allegations, not set in stone fact.

Hold on there. Strong words. Admit it, you didn't clutch the beads nor did you pray the Rosary before you posted it.

Protestants can only aspire to the lofty and narrow path of Catholics. They should look to the Pope for inspirations of goodness and steadfastness.

The article makes it sound like is his experience is rare. I have a cousin who teaches Amish children in rural upstate NY (they come to public schools for a couple years to learn English). She is invited to some of their homes regularly.

I attend Amish auctions and some communal activities with her as a guest. The are all very friendly and kind. They have many children and its normal that older siblings will be seen taking care of younger ones. I am struck how CALM and at ease their children are. Teenage boys in big groups are quiet, not boisterous, rambunctious or hyperactive. Their girls are not nervous or fidgety. They all have long attention spans and are socially adept.

Well crafted sarcasm, right?
For me, this Pope is the opposite of inspirational.
Let’s just say, he is creating his legacy, so as it is.

They are polite as a rule but elders will scowl or ignore you if you have alcohol on your breath. Then I wonder why you set up your tray of delicious peanut brittle and cheese in front of a tavern (instead of setting up at the weekly farmer's market, which I still don't understand), my Amish dude, but whatever. It is what it is.

We have had extensive barn work done by Amish crews, excellent, unsurpassed.
