My college classmate, Piper, is right, I think. I see the eternal state as endless fascination and learning. There will be an infinite amount to learn and accomplish and it will be more satisfying than our biggest triumph in this life.
I can’t really accurately compare Heaven to anything; but I know it will be fascinating, always.
Read Johan Bojer’s short story - “Kari Aasen in Heaven” - exactly this question answered . . . in 1902 iirc!
Will we work in Heaven? I trust that we will and look forward to it. Meaningful work is stimulating and satisfying.
My job will be:
Rock Star.
I think that's the wrong word .to much negative connotation ..although I love work.
Let's say ... We'll have things to do. It won't be boring.
No. Wrong. In the Garden of Eden nobody worked.
These guys don’t even read the Bible.
I have often wondered if we are all children in heaven. I’ve always heard that while you’ll recognize your earthly spouse, you won’t have any romantic feelings for him/her. Personally, I think that it would be amazing to spend eternity as a child. You wake up everyday knowing that you are going to learn something new. There are no adult stresses or pressures (obviously, since it is Heaven).
Personally, I conceive of eternity as joining with the Holy Spirit, standing watch over mankind to advise, console and protect those that seek the Way. It will be work of unimaginable reward.
Well, somebody has to pick cotton, might as well be me.
Not true, Adam took care of the Garden.
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Work.
I guess you Bible scholars don’t have Genesis 2:15 in your Bibles?
Here’s what we lay people have in ours:
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Genesis 2:15 NIV
Adam worked. He was given the job of naming all the animals
You will be at your peak years. My guess around 30.
I also think that we will have work in heaven, but God knows exactly the kind of work we will find infinitely satisfying and enjoyable. And I think that every day God will reveal something else about him and his creation.
I'm sure John Piper is aware of Genesis 2:15. You clearly aren't.
We will have work but it won’t be boring or monotonous or laborous or toil.
I’m not a fan of John Piper, but besides the point, I think he might want to find another subject to write about, I don’t think work is a subject people are going to get really excited about, I can see people running away from him and hiding just as he starts talking about work, maybe he could use a different word. (sarcasm alert). This is like a Baptist talking about Baptism in the middle of winter in a church that doesn’t have a Baptismal tank, and the norm is to go down to the river to get Baptized.
Don’t think I’ll worry about what a Calvinist thinks will happen in Heaven. I’m content to leave anything about what Heaven will be like in the Hands of God.
