Peterson said, "Religion is the basis for how you act out."
The young atheist was confused and so was I...at first.
Peterson (he's becoming a Christian) went on to elaborate that if you hold a belief but don't act on it, that religion is just an empty label. For example, a REAL believing Christian will act like one in every way. He will make mistakes because he is human, but when he makes mistakes he will act to correct them.
A person who claims to be a Christian but cheats on his taxes or is nasty to other people is, of course, just a superficial Christian.
That entire Peterson conversation kept popping into my head last night.
Far too many people conflate actual true, life changing relationship with Jesus Christianity with cultural Christianity.
Re: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.
Dennis Prager suggests that the word translated “Take” can also be translated “Carry.”
One carries “the name of the Lord in vain” when they publicly and loudly proclaim that they are a Christian but overtly never act like it.
Prager suggests this does the greatest harm to Christianity.
