These days “Is the Pope Catholic?” has a whole new meaning.

As it is a nearly 2,000 years old institution, the Church has had many opportunities to thoroughly disappoint the flock. It exists today because the Lord has never failed to supply it with the correction it needed.

I have faith that the Lord has the required corrections (as He deems necessary) for this and any future challenges.

Seems to be a common question for you as it’s about half the posts in the first page of your history copy/pasted...

... so I’ll give ‘an’ answer but probably not ‘the’ answer.

- All Christians have their one hope, which is Christ.
- A central expression of this revealed truth is contained in the Nicene creed, which, after explaining about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, continues: “We believe in one holy Catholic and apostolic Church.” (which naturally some denominations write as ‘catholic’ and others ‘Christian’ but they all mean the totality of believers in Christ, aka the Bride of Christ. The word ‘catholic’ derives from Greek ‘universal.’
- By apostolic is meant that Christ chose apostles; that Christ (Mt. 16:18-19) appointed them to lead the Church, and that when a replacement was needed, they elected another (Acts 1:25).
- Great; but we know (and Peter on the night of the Passion is example #1) that humans fail.
- Therefore there are and have been bad popes; similarly failed leaders in every denomination, some more than others, and at some times more than others. There are no perfect pastors or priests, bishops, popes, or whatever other term exists out there.
- To the best of my knowledge — for what that’s worth — a Pope is not deemed to be perfect, but rather the Holy Spirit prevents the corruption of the Bride of Christ. Again IMO, any other view verges on heretical — Christ didn’t come to 98% save the world from sin, but only if fallible people do a good job, or mostly but we have to finish X, Y, or Z. It is completed.

Having been in Lutheran, evangelical, non-denominational and even little house churches before my opinion is that all the ways of picking individuals to be leaders are liable to fault. Mostly these days it’s pseudo-democratic which appeals to our western sensibilities but also means the pastor is an employee, not of Christ, but of the whims of the congregation. The other type, in the larger denominations, is by committee which is essentially the same as having cardinals pick but a different batch of politics; and then there’s always nuts-to-you-let’s-form-our-own-denomination which IMO is just ego, and why there *are* a vast array of denominations. So, faced with all those, why not just go with the way Christ set it up? Just don’t expect the result to end up with anything other than human beings.

Lastly in searching something to find a right word I found this which is from the CCC and so is probably better and certainly more official than my little blather.

There is a difference between charity and socialism/communism.

Sadly, the lampstand has left the building.

“If I look at the gospel in a purely sociological way, then yes, then I am a communist,“

Fine, if you come to that decision freely and operate among others of like mind. But the minute you shove your stupid idea down the collective throat of the masses you’re Mao and Hitler and PolPot. (So that leaves Jesus out).

Leaving aside the wealth safety and opportunity free market and free societies have generated over the last two hundred years, how the hell can a Pope not understand free will.

Communism was tried in the Bible. It did not work then for the same reasons it does not work now. Communism failed when the leaders ran out of other people’s money.

Just because they were Christians doesn’t mean they were smart. Same with Francis. He is just not very smart.

Yes!

I’ve I asked the same questions many times in the last 10 days or so.

Congratulations!

You are the first two to try to answer.

No.6 - And you spent some time answering and provided background. But nothing new.
Thank you!

The RCC is deeply flawed, not the exclusive Way (if it even IS “a” way), and its adherants have been hoodwinked. From the top of the organization, through the middle, and right down to its members, this religion is broken.

I’d advise any Catholic to leave it immediately, find a good Bible-believing church, join a small group, and learn the truth.

Happy New Year!

That was your ‘answer’ before you started. Typical internet dialogue; everyone hears what they wanted and replies with their existing opinion.

Why ask the same questions, over and over, when you refuse to accept the few answers you get?

Are you looking to pick a fight? If you are, you've already lost, Regis. God always wins.
